The Lyft driver will have to get his car cleaned to get the puke and it’s smell out so that is a direct out of pocket expense. Plus, he loses out on fares during the clean up time. I’d say $150 is fair. The terms of service allow for up to $250 for clean up of damages to the car so it could have been worse.
$150 doesn’t seem excessive. Puke is hard to get out, throw in opportunity cost and big market labor costs and it seems pretty reasonable.
Although I would hate to pay it $150 sounds fair. Just imagine if you were the driver and some kid puked in your car during the holidays. The hassle and inconvenience of having to get that cleaned, lost wages the night of and morning after, cleaning charges, etc...wouldn’t you want to be paid even more than $150?
Yes, the $150 takes into account his lost wages for the night/day since he won’t be able to get it cleaned so late in the evening. Please don’t complain- the drivers have it really hard and they need to clean up your kids mess now on top of a very thin margin
Time to buy a car....
Whats it cost to get a car detailed? Think about if you get in that uber next and it smells like puke
Sadly, $150 sounds about right. Too bad the driver didn't carry barf bags; I used to carry them when I drove because there's no cleanup that way. Win-win.
It's Manhattan, car detailing is expensive.
... I get email from Lyft with $150 charge. Did anyone ever get into similar situation? I feel like $150 is really excessive. And the mess was all limited to the floor of the car on one side (no seating, doors, etc).
Sounds about right. If it wasn’t that bad you should’ve take a picture to dispute it. Still would be about $80
D1, I had 2 kids in my hands, one covered in puke and another one ready to puke after watching her brother do it. Sorry but taking pictures wasn’t high on my priority list. I just had to get them out of the car and cleaned up. It’s not like I was drunk and puked all over the place. It was a little kid, after multiple warnings/requests to driver to break softer.
Manager 1, we live in Manhattan and I take train to work so won’t be buying a car any time soon. The reason I posted was to see if $150 would seem excessive to anyone for that damage
Technically the money they charge is only for reimbursement to get the car detailed. Receipts are supposed to be submitted to substantiate the expense. They just charge it as soon as reported because drivers can’t drive and they want to get the drivers back on the road fast. There is insurance that drivers can purchase to re-coop lost wages for these type of situations, but it’s kinda expensive
