We're celebrating my daughter's 18th birthday at Disney magic Kingdom. Any ideas or suggestions to making this day special for her birthday. We are passholders and go to Disney all the time so want to make this trip stand out above the rest. We are also on fixed income and can only take off work that 1 one (Thursday) and trying to make up for the 16th birthday she couldn't have because of quarantine at the time. Anything would help. We have a very special dinner planned already

Ask as soon as you come in, ask for the best shop with all the Mickey ears. Buy her a pair ($40) so that she can wear them all day. I am a grown woman (over 30) and I wore my pair all 3 days I was there. It really adds to the magic. I kid you not. Make sure she gets the Bday pin at the entrance. You guys can wear like matching colors as a family. Also, google "birthday at Magic Kingdom." Some of the super Disney ppl write blogs with all kinds of tricks and things you can make happen while there.

P.S. Kudos to you for working hard to make this happen. Shes so lucky to have you. 💕

Also, if she has any specific character loves I’d look at Etsy shops for some really cool and unique ears! Another of my absolute favorite shops for ears is called Shimmering Ever After!!

No advice but this sounds amazing, your daughter is so lucky to have a mom like you. Hope you guys have a wonderful time!

If you like the fireworks and such I would recommend doing the dessert parties at either Magic Kingdom or Epcot! They give you some cute little desserts and snacks and reserved PRIME location spots for the fireworks and shows! I know it sounds a bit kitschy but as a full grown adult even I really enjoy it!

They do amazing custom cakes. They’re pricey though.

Oh, if you’re going to Disney WORLD in Orlando, you should absolutely go to Jellyrolls! It’s a singalong piano bar at Boardwalk. Soooo fun! My whole family goes whenever we’re in Orlando. I think it’s 18+, so it might also be special for her to get in.

Curious what has worked best for others. If you talk numbers in the first call with recruiter/HR, realize there’s much more money on the table, interviews go well and expect an offer, when is the best time to bring up the new number? Before they draw up offer? Or during negotiating initial offer?

I’m curious to learn how many applications or how long it normally takes for a junior corporate associate to lateral into another position. I am a rising third year corporate and employment associate at a small/medium size firm. I’ve been applying since I completed my first year. It’s been over a year and I’ve submitted 100+ applications. I do my best to network considering my firm doesn’t support my networking efforts and I work with good recruiters. Just really want to learn the norm here.

I think I generally do good work… except on one case with one partner. I got added to the case at a crucial moment with no context and no time to get caught up to speed. What I was asked to do was beyond my experience level and it’s been mistake after mistake since then. I just made another mistake this week, which I promptly addressed. Still, I have to call the partner tomorrow to explain. Continued…

Weird question. Got an offer months ago for a job abroad (not in my country of choice) and turned it down due to the low salary and not being in Europe. I started a new role in NYCsince I got that job offer in a large firm (from a small firm in a small town), started 3 months ago, and I absolutely hate it. Not sure whether I should try this small firm abroad for a change in pace. The new firm swears, “if you ever work past 5 pm here, there’s something seriously wrong. We don’t believe in that.”

Seeking advice pls- I’m looking at new roles for various reasons, one being that where I am at is not a healthy environment. I had an interview and everything for the most part was nice, but I didn’t like how my interviewer cursed a couple of times as part of the conversation. I have no problem with cursing it just felt a little too informal and comfortable for the setting. Am I overreacting? I’m just scared that I will be going to a more toxic environment.

Need advice: I work in-house, report to the COO. I have 5 yrs of exp and just barely started this job. The COO is a nightmare. She has already made negative comments about four other employees, not related to what we were discussing. She micromanages everything down to telling me how to write informal emails. She is belittling and disrespectful and I have now learned that everyone else in the org feels this way. I’ve always had great relationships with bosses and I’m at a loss. What do I do?!

I’ve worked at 5 different law firms over a 22 year career. I’ve been hesitant to put my complete job history on LinkedIn due to possible negative connotations but the truth is, taken in context each move was well thought out , a better opportunity, and in one case, necessary (firm winding down). I’ve grown with each move. Now I see that there are other women patent lawyers of similar vintage who also have 4-5 different firms in their past. Should I just put it all out there?

I would love to hear success stories about attorneys who have quit firm life, taken a non-profit or government job (including a 20-30k pay cut) and didn’t regret it. I am so over firm culture. My fiancé and I would still have a comfortable combined income but I am worried I would miss the extra cash. I think I know deep down this is what I need to do but I’d still love to hear success stories!

assigning attorney told me back in February that the partners decided *not* to staff me on a very time-intensive, annual deal this spring (which I worked on in 2021), so I could focus on new work that has come in which I am REALLY interested in. Therefore, I signed on to those new projects. Now, seems like he is trying to walk back on it and staff me on Deal A. I’m unbelievably stressed and idk even what to say to him. Now I’m committed to other stuff/partners and Deal A is SO much work.
