Meh just take it during busy season. Everyone else does and it’s not a problem.
The most I’ve worked for for this client has been 60 hours. But I don’t think I could do it with 2 kids and having to wake up multiple times at night to be honest cause of a new born.
If you’re the one giving birth, use 12 weeks immediately. Recovery is tough and you will need it. If you’re not, take the four immediately to support your partner and use the rest during busy season. My senior manager did it literally the month and a half when we are busiest and nobody said anything.
So here’s the thing about parental leave; it’s bonding leave. Otherwise you are just treating it like vacation. Use as much time right away to bond with the new addition, your other child and your spouse/partner as you’ll never have those early days of your new family of 4 ever again.
I think so what’s best for you and your new addition to the family. They get upset about you taking time off to take care of your family during busy season then let them be upset
Don’t think it will be unfair…you have a baby!! Tbh having to work 40 hours when waking up a few times per night would be painful enough…I don’t have a baby nor want to have one soon but have seen friends going through this that literally need to take half a year off…you should definitely suggest to your manager and see what they say
Use everyday of it when it works for your family. Don’t schedule around work
Take all 12 at once. I’m doing it now. Knowing I have countless weeks left is freeing.
And I’m using it like vacation. Corporate policy doesn’t state its bonding time. Got to look out for #1. Part of the Benefits your firm is offering. Would be like passing on a cash bonus b
Use it all. It’s the birth of your child. Any company that gets upset at for that is not a company you want to work for.
So what you’re really saying is “I want to take a month off to end busy season early, then “work” the holiday period, and then take the rest of it during the next busy season, but sugar coat it to sound like I am willing to work the 40 and knowing they will say no take your time off”
Are you the mom or the dad? If you are the mom you will want to take all that time off right after the birth. I’m on month 4 of mat leave right now and still can’t imagine going back. And she’s refusing to take a bottle so it would be impossible to go back right now. If the dad- my husband didn’t get mat leave but if he did I would’ve loved for him to be home with me those first 12 weeks. Those are SO HARD and your wife will need so much help. Watch the baby so she can get some naps in during the day. Makes a huge difference. Good luck!!
