Is your concern safety, or the annoyance of having to break your workday to oversee the handyman?
Personally, I push as much on my husband as possible because I’m exhausted by how often it’s assumed I can cover something
At the end of the day, if you’re not comfortable there’s nothing unreasonable about your ask.

Spot on. I’m not uncomfortable with it personally but it’s irrelevant what I think.
Always good to be cautious but this should be fine. You made the arrangements, they should show ID if you want and know what needs to be done.
I’ve had different service ppl come when I’m the only one at home. Have never felt unsafe and they’ve all been really professional about it. Where is this handyman from though, is it through an established organization or like a random person off Craigslist
I had my 17 year old baby sitter home one day w a man doing work in the house. My mother who was home left the house and I got a horrible hunch. I ran home and the handy man was waking up the stairs to where the babysitter was even though the work was not upstairs. Nothing happened but I definitely freaked out and was so happy to have been home in that second. The worker claimed he was going to update the sitter on the work which made no sense to me. I am not comfortable home alone with male strangers.
Thanks, I just have safety concerns and not much about work. I think I have anxiety letting strangers into the house :(
