We're the "essential workers" yet the remote workers get to have all the perks, don't they?

I do not agree, I work remotely and I feel that my boss demands more from me than from the office staff.

Exactly, we should have better benefits and more awareness but it is the opposite. I really don't understand

cause i'm so essential they're willing to give me what I want.

When you're actually considered essential, you have bargaining power. The whole "essential" worker trend was just empty posturing by mediocre leaders looking to get grace

sorry you got duped into thinking your company actually values you. Truth is, they'll get rid of you without thinking twice about it and you should reciprocate that courtesy

The essential worker thing is a sham, if your bosses genuinely thought of you as valuable or essential, they would provide you with appropriate compensation and benefits that reflect that. Don't let their hollow words convince you of something that is not true.

I'm essential to running their business and maximizing their profits, that doesn't mean i'm indispensable lol

I think what they really mean is that our roles are essential, not that the actual humans working those jobs are essential. We're just little cogs in their business to them, and they can just get new ones whenever they want, at least with the current power dynamic between labor and capital

"Essential workers" started as an important distinction and quickly became a way for companies to manipulate employees. "We value you, you're ESSENTIAL" (but not essential enough to treat well).

How many of you are working remote? I really don’t see how this industry, especially in IT risk could go back to the office. I had minimal time prior to covid at client sites. Want to get a feeling around how many people here still remote and will be remote at least for the presumable future.

Hi Fishes ,

I have 5 YOE experience in total and 13 LPA CTC.
I shifted from Unix to Data Science 3 years back. My current org. is aware of this change.
I always did great and was appreciated by clients. But my company still considers me as a fresher and pays me less - as they are aware of my previous exp.

I don't have any issues with my current org - it has great WLB, client is very supportive and permanent remote role. The only problem is my pay.
Any suggestions for my problem?

How much rent should I be paying?

Finding a house-share with enough working space for wfh seems expensive since I first moved to London 4 years ago - £900+ pcm and still competing for the room! Is it worth just trying to rent solo a little further out for ~£1,300pcm? Big issue is I’m only earning ~£45k with 4yoe.

Hi Recruiters!
I have a question for you. I have been looking for a remote job (in HR) at a credit union. They are so hard to come by! I just found one. One of the requirements is a degree, which I don’t have.
Do you find that most hiring managers won’t budge on that?
The recruiter is listed on the job. Do you think it is a good idea to message her and ask if it would be a deal breaker before I apply? Or should I just apply and hope for the best?
Thank you!

Accenture India Employees - (1) How much does job location matter in getting good projects for a fresher(ASE- Lvl 12) ?

I am currently in Entry Level Pool-Bangalore and will be 'Soft Locked' to Bench in a month's time. I wish to change my job location to either Indore in MP(top priority) or to Pune(MH).

(2) Should I wait till I get a project in Bangalore and then change location only if WFH gets over (if that is possible) or change it right now ?
(3) Any idea till when WFH will last? Thanks 🙏

Remote Onboarding question: I joined my company a little over two months ago, and I’m in a remote role. This is my first time onboarding remotely as I started at my last company pre-pandemic. Honestly, I’ve found it lonely so far. I’ve been trying to be outgoing and meet with everyone I can, but it so far feels like I have not been included as a full member of the team. Any advice on how to approach relationship-building? Any secrets to unlocking remote onboarding?

Hi Guys!

Our company is recruiting quite heavily! We focus on Belgium (I know, quite the small region), but I believe we might be open to remote! We are a rapidly scaling SaaS startup in the hospitality sector! Moreover, we are a large group of friendly colleagues working toward a common goal (I know, it sounds mellow, but it's quite true honestly!).
We are mainly looking for data engineers & backend (Go & Django) engineers.

Why have unions become so powerless in recent years? A decade ago, the collective bargaining units would get wage increases that matched or exceeded inflationary growth. Now we are lucky to see any positive integer offered.

Realistically, if they are merely securing my job for $100/month they are not providing value! I can protect my own job, AND pay for a decent retirement with that money saved.
