We're the "essential workers" yet the remote workers get to have all the perks, don't they?

Considering a 100% WFH role on a team that is going back into the office. Grateful for opportunity to live where I want, nervous about impact to my career growth and going crazy being at home non stop.

Senior dev working alone in an office, everybody is remote. Thinking of moving to PHX to be fully remote myself, currently in LA. Lower COL. Change to buy house. I like heat. Thoughts? Why? Why not?

How many of you are working remote? I really don’t see how this industry, especially in IT risk could go back to the office. I had minimal time prior to covid at client sites. Want to get a feeling around how many people here still remote and will be remote at least for the presumable future.

I have 5 YOE experience in total and 13 LPA CTC.
I shifted from Unix to Data Science 3 years back. My current org. is aware of this change.
I always did great and was appreciated by clients. But my company still considers me as a fresher and pays me less - as they are aware of my previous exp.

I don't have any issues with my current org - it has great WLB, client is very supportive and permanent remote role. The only problem is my pay.
Any suggestions for my problem?

How much rent should I be paying?

Finding a house-share with enough working space for wfh seems expensive since I first moved to London 4 years ago - £900+ pcm and still competing for the room! Is it worth just trying to rent solo a little further out for ~£1,300pcm? Big issue is I’m only earning ~£45k with 4yoe.

Do you find that most hiring managers won’t budge on that?

Remote Onboarding question: I joined my company a little over two months ago, and I’m in a remote role. This is my first time onboarding remotely as I started at my last company pre-pandemic. I made calculations and I can show upto 24000 pm as rent to gain max hra benifit. But should I be doing it ? Such high rent in tier 2 city ?

Why have unions become so powerless in recent years? A decade ago, the collective bargaining units would get wage increases that matched or exceeded inflationary growth. Now we are lucky to see any positive integer offered.

Realistically, if they are merely securing my job for $100/month they are not providing value! I can protect my own job, AND pay for a decent retirement with that money saved.
