Some advice: have some patience. It takes months for the work to be “steady.” And it’s likely much harder during covid. Are you a first or second year? If so, and if you’re at a traditional big law firm, it will likely be a while to take or defend depos. Some good news: There’s plenty of things for you to learn in the meantime. And, in order for you to get more responsibility, you need to first show people up the chain you can handle the intermediate tasks.
In my experience the best way to go about this is to be proactive. Try to foresee the next need at your level. Did you do research for a brief, ask if they need you to proof/cite check it a few days before it’s due. Did you review documents, ask if they need help putting together privilege logs, etc. This way you’ll be more and more involved in a case and eventually more valuable.
That to say you’re the only one really responsible for your workflow and increased responsibilities.
