Yes. Nothing against my parents as it was a different time. But I will not employ the same method for my own kids. Makes me wonder what we’re unknowingly doing now that we’ll later realize is cruel!! :(
I agree with this, but man, discipline with limited consequences is really tough to pull off especially if your kids choose not to cooperate and flat out tell you no. At some points it is a battle of wills that you don’t always win! You kind of have to hope they make good decisions on their own.
Spanked? No. Bludgeoned? Yes. Belts, wrenches, fists, whatever was in reach. Had two brothers and frankly we probably deserved it. Mom stopped beating us when we we're able to take the belt from her, but then dad finished when he got home. Dad stopped after I hit him back when I was 16. I was not a good kid and got into a lot of trouble.
On top of that my grade school actively "swatted" with a 2 ft wooden paddle with holes in it. If you got your name + 3 check marks on the board 3x every visit was a swat +1 with each reoccurrence. They had to ask your parents for permission and my parents gladly said yes, then I'd get it again at home.
Love my parents to death. I have zero complaints about my childhood.
Sounds like my dad’s childhood except he was emotionless at his own father’s funeral a few months ago. I guess different things work on different people.
I’ve been hit with a big ass stick, a little stick that felt like a whip, hockey sticks, baseball bats, and had multiple phones thrown in my general direction. 😀
Hard to be scared of anything in life after training at home.
Not that I can remember. But I do recall getting the belt being threatened. My mom was in a verbally and physically abusive relationship for 11 years after divorcing my dad, so I have plenty of childhood trauma either way.
And slapped, and dragged down the hallway by my hair.
I think if you expand it to a more generalized "most consultants were traumatized as children" it would be 100% accurate. No one well-adjusted is desperate enough for external validation to put themselves through this
Yep!

No, but now I love to be.
My theory is that most consultants were beaten as children

Yes. Belts. Told that if I moved when I got lashings, additional would be added.
