Context: Married with first baby on the way. Plan is for my spouse to stay home with our (future) kids for next few years. My income is $250-300K and keeping it that way for a while as I’ve moved off partner track for at least 2-3 years as we start our family.
$120K in retirement accounts, $70K in cash, $50K in home equity, and $6K in HSA
Beyond mortgage, only debt is a $25K private loan that we can pay back any time in next 5 yrs. and isn’t accruing interest.
Agree with the suggestions above. One other suggestion might be to hire one or two baby sitters to help with a “kids table”. This will allow the parents to enjoy the evening, and celebrate you guys, without 100% stressing about their kids.
That's a great idea, thanks!
Get a side room in the venue where the kids can hang out and have a baby sitter there with like toys and coloring books and stuff (get whatever at the dollar tree). Serve them pizza or something if the venue allows it.
The baby sitter is a great idea. We're planning on having the caterers do a few kid-friendly foods for sure.
That’s a good question. One thought is kid friendly food options. Curious what others suggest.
Yes, we're definitely planning on having some kid-friendly food on the dinner menu! I'm sure a lot of adults won't be skipping the chicken nuggets and mac and cheese too!
Depending on the age of the kids, I’ve seen little coloring books/colors (including wedding related ones)—Etsy has cute cheap books, sheets, mats. I’ve also seen a mini dessert table and a mini play table for kids as well.
A friend rented a bouncy castle for the kids and set it up on the side. It's loud where it was but the kids barely made interruptions to the reception
That's not a bad idea, we'll have to check and see if the venue allows things like that.

I saw a cute idea on the internet- instead (or in addition to) a bouquet toss for the ladies, do a cotton candy toss (or similar) for the kids.
Bride and/or groom toss the candy behind their back for the kids to collect. Maybe you can make it symbolize a “sweet” year ahead

What’s the age range of the kids?
