(1) free parking: I'm not dragging my ass to the office and paying $10-$20 a day for parking when I don't have to (2) free food/snacks like the trendsetters (3) good coffee (4) comfortable seating with the option for private vs social work environments (5) take a look at BCG's office in NYC, if there's a consulting firm's office I'd want to go to on Friday's, that would be it.
Like most culture problems, it starts with leaders. If principals were in the office with open doors and available to meet on Fridays, I would have a reason to come in. Aside from that, it would be helpful to recognize that office culture, as well as office perks, trappings, and furnishings, are an adaptation to a shared geographic hardship. Companies don't exist to create culture and self-imposed hardships only sustain companies when you remove them, so I don't really see a reason to try to resuscitate 20th century office culture. I am looking forward to the day when nobody cares about the office and meetings are scheduled in Starbucks, the park, the library, or someone's dining room.
Shut up HR.
We don't want to wake up at the ass crack of dawn, dress up, drive all the way to the office, and to sit and do work when wake up and can work *from bed*. We don't even have our own desks at the offices or parking spots, it's hoteling #worthless. The coffee sucks, the limited snacks are not healthy and it's such a drab and sanitized environment. There's just no allure.
Unless you're willing to put nap pods, free meals, and cool shit like google/Facebook (the trendsetters) there's no way I'm schlepping my little ass to the office 👌🏻
Recruit hot babes for HR and admin roles
Free breakfast and office puppies, lots of office puppies
Good coffee, free breakfast.
👍🏻 MC1. The better question is what is gained from the traditional office culture and how can we create that in a WFH environment.
Spot on. Get partners in the office and make them require their staff to be in the office. Except my partner's 1500 miles away, so I still gain nothing from going into the office most of the time.
The last thing I want to do after working 10 -12 hours/day on the road is go into an office at home. Friday is *me* time. Been that was for 10+ years.
Important people who have a stake in my career advancement need to be present and be forced to talk to me. (As opposed to aimless networking with dozens of unstaffed analysts)
Standing desks w big monitors / cooler ergo friendly setups than I have at home, + agreed on senior leadership presence
D2 with the win
Team lunches. I heard some MBB do poker/tables where partners only deal, which sounds awesome.
Have someone there willing to do your remedial tasks like expense reporting but still need more than that. Free laundry service?
Provide free parking, food and HH if possible. Also don't expect people to come until like 10am. Relaxed dress code helps too
The office not being a 60+ minute commute away in the burbs
Add Moneypenny, Q hooks you up with new gear for each assignment, and the rest of HQ is just replaced with a spa? Yea, then people would go there, but it wouldn't be an office -- it would be the MI-6 headquarters and a spa.
Free parking + partners/SM attendance. If both happened I would be in the office every Friday
