Hi fishes,I have around 5.2 yrs of hands on exp in data engg. and able to clear service based companies interviews easily. Now I want to switch to product based companies as I am looking for some good work, good salary but I am not really strong in dsa as it's not part of my daily work.I don't really use trees and graphs as part of my daily work.
How shall I switch to product based companies considering DSA is their 1st round itself.what level of DSA can I expect from companies for data engineer position?

Considering you:
1. Dont know what to do with your life
2. Want to be in the US at some point
An M7 MBA could be worth it for you as a career/country switcher
You can’t “get on with your life” if you don’t know what to do with it yet. Your first job post-MBB will begin to brand your industry/function specialization. However, if you can figure it out without the downtime of an MBA, don’t go.
Yeah I mean mba is for figuring out what’s next pretty often and getting into US from non us MBB is not that easy. I’ve had similar doubts but every time I go to school (matriculating in the fall) i know it’ll help me with whatever’s next
It sounds like you’ve answered your own question.
Should I do the MBA?
I know this is a not a question that anybody can objectively answer for me, but I guess I’m trying to get a calibrated sense from others on how much they value their MBA (and the experience of getting it)
A bit more context:
- I’ll readily admit that I don’t have a strong ‘need’ at this stage for an MBA (not as valued in my country vs the USA, MBB exit opps are pretty good, etc.); that said, I could certainly see a situation where I end up in the USA at some stage
- I don’t really know what I want to do career-wise as a next step (though most/all things I’m thinking of don’t require an MBA explicitly)
- What drives me are basically some less tangible factors: I know I’ll have a great time, I have a pretty clear idea of what I’d look to get out of it (even if I can’t tie them to specific career goals yet), last opportunity to take a long break for professional and personal development, and mostly a fear of regretting not doing it later down the track
- Somewhat countering part of the previous point, if I didn’t do this then I’d instead take 6 months off to do some other things I know lll fine fulfilling
- I could go without sponsorship, but I don’t think I can justify the debt
Ultimately, the two biggest things pushing me to *not* doing it:
- Really don’t want to do another 2 years in strategy consulting
- Want to ‘get on with my life’, whereas I feel like MBB/MBA are just further delays to me deciding an actual career direction
So; enough of my rambling. Given this limited information, and knowing how much you value your M7 experience, what advice would you give?
There are way cheaper and easier ways to take a professional break. If you want to figure out what you want to do; MBA isn't the way to do it. It'll just hone you in on the career that everyone else in school is aiming for and that you have experience in (more consulting or banking).
I suggest a long vacation then try your hand at a startup. Then reevaluate MBA.
