Dude this depends on your airports.
You either end up traveling to great cities w no upgrades, or the middle of nowhere w bumps up. Until you’ve officially sold your soul and first born will you get upgraded on the popular routes on consultant flying days. Exceptions do happen, but they’re exceptions
I have been going FL to CA with gold status on American and upgrades are far and few a part due to the number of platinum and executive platinum members ahead of me. I would say the answer to your question is it depends on your status level and which hubs you fly through
Flying out of LAX mostly, to SF, NYC, and Chicago... I’ve been using American but rare upgrades so figured I would ask if anyone else has better experiences with other airlines out there
Also depends on status level.
I’m exec plat from Dallas and get upgrades ~30-40% of the time flying from Dallas. Whenever I fly non-hub to non-hub I’m upgraded 💯% of the time a week in advance
