Is it really that bad - what did people expect when they joined? There is a reason we make much more than most of those we graduated with. This isn't a great time but it isn't 2008 and it could be far worse.

Heyo! I’m moving to Chicago once offices start opening up and was hoping you all could give me the scoop on the best places to live. All the articles I’m finding online seem very generic to me. I’m looking to live alone with my puppy and I’m looking to spend anywhere from $1400-$1750 a month.

I’m pretty regular, so my main hobbies are running,/working out, meeting friends for dinners, etc. I’m also LGBT+, and although I don’t want that to define where I live, it’d be nice to catch a vibe.

My company is absolutely hemorrhaging talent. Exec. level down - people are dropping like flies. I’m going on maternity leave soon and dont plan on returning to my role once my leave is up. My manager wants to extend counter offer to a woman on my team who has put in her notice, and I honestly want to caution her not to take it. I’ve seen how the sausage is made and it is no good, and I believe the other company will be a better long term fit. Do I share this with her, or not my problem?

Had the partner in charge of the tax group I was previously in at a B4 firm email me encouraging me to apply for an opening with them (basically same role I was in before, but at a SM level).

The catch is, I was part of their COVID RIF layoffs in summer 2020, and don’t think I’ll forget that anytime soon. Do I just respond that I’m not interested, or do I politely make it clear I have zero interest in ever returning to the firm?

Re: recent post about women being expected to be more “professional” than men: many said that women are perceived to be overly emotional when we are assertive or act upset and so it is smarter to just always stay calm to appear in control. I’m questioning if this strategy is more helpful or harmful to women in the workforce. Obv I understand that we are all looking out for ourselves, but what if women as a group started being more open about our feelings? They can’t fire us all.

My office opened recently (small firm inNYC), and although I am not being forced to come in technically, there is clearly an expectation to start going back to normal in my firm. I’m in tax so I feel like there is no point in going to the office anyway, since I can easily work from home. Anyone else have a similar experience? I just don’t understand what the rush is to go back, and the risk outweighs the gain at this point. I brought this up recently and my views were shot down by the partners.

Guys I’ve done something bad. Like many people, I left the big city and went to my parents to ride out the pandemic. And like many families, we adopted a dog, 15 months old. We didn’t change his name. But, he’s a big, 75lb doodle, as goofy as it gets. So I’ve been calling him “Idiot,” but with a super endearing tone - I of course love the dog. But my mom is ready to kill me. He answers to it now. I’ll walk outside and yell, “Come here, Idiot!!” - & the whole neighborhood can hear. Can’t help it

On Good Friday, a time important to all Christians, I’d like to thank this community.
For a lot of 2019 I was on a project that, simply put, became a consulting meme. And this community helped me laugh through it all and keep going. For 2020, it carried on helping. Our job is really weird and it is great to be able to share the ups and downs (and downs) with people who understand.
Stay safe everyone, and to all those who are Christian, remember that Christ will rise again on the third day 🙏
