What answer is great for this interview question: “What kind of people do you find difficult to work with?”

Oh wow. That’s a really good question. My honest answer is people who demean others and make them feel small or less than for their ideas or input. I have had managers like that and it is crushing. I don’t know if it is a great interview answer though.

I’d say people that aren’t open minded or think that they’re always right.

I was asked this question in a recent interview loop with meta and I’m stuck on it. My answer was “really no one, because I’m always looking for common ground and relationship building, and I’ve found successful relationships working with all kinds of performers and attitudes. If you made me say one I’d say people who take credit for other people’s work on a group effort, but even then it’s not like I’m going to not work with them again, I will just need to speak up to make sure all those who contributed are seen for their contributions.”

I felt it was a real good and genuine answer.

I’d answer this question in a similar fashion.

“I have an innate ability to assimilate having previously worked in multiple functions across the investment spectrum” = part of my answer, verbatim

Genuine answer is people who don’t trust you when you haven’t given them a reason to not trust you’re excellent at your job. If someone is hired at a top company I trust they do their job better than I can and care about their job. The people I find challenging to work with are the people that believe the opposite - they want me to prove to them I know how to do my job and believe they can do my job better than I can which they can’t cause I’ve been doing this a long time and they’ve never done it.

Would prob prompt follow up questions like ‘how do you manage those situations’, ‘tell me about a time when you encountered this’ .. ‘what did you do’ ‘what was the result’

I got a chuckle out of this lady because I talked about working 8 years in sales before moving to learning and development in which I experienced all kinds of clients with all kinds of weird issues and requests, so finding working relationships difficult just doesn’t happen anymore. So maybe our strategies were kinda the same! Haha

We’ve asked this in interviews and people tend to say they get along with everyone. However, our company values include teamwork and accountability so I appreciate when people want to work with people that are accountable for their work and share the work load fairly.

Yeah I definitely highlighted that I value everyone getting credit for work done and will speak up for those people if someone is taking credit for a group effort, but it’s not someone I find difficult, I just feel obligated to speak up.

How about something like “people who abuse jargon to hide the unethical nature of a decision that they are making. I feel that it’s easy to add layers of abstraction between what is being said and what’s actually happening, and some people abuse that.”

My honest answer is that I really go out of my way to avoid working with selfish people. I feel like folks who see their day to day life as a zero-sum game (more for me means less for you) suck all the joy out of collaboration. Success and credit aren’t starvation economies, or they shouldn’t be.

My answer would be along the lines of: “people who put their ego above the common goal of succeeding and in the process abusing their power against the progress of the project”
Hate when people defy common sense just to stroke their ego.

I need some advice please. I made it to the final round of interviews for a Product Owner position. Since I’ve been dealing with rejection for almost two years of getting into Product does anyone have any tips to ace the interview? Also my goal is PM. Do you think a move from PO to PM is obtainable? I’ve done some research and according to Marty Cagan the PO & PM should be one individual. To this end is the PO position seen as redundant?
