Designing a new bridge, creating a new car, and building a new skyscraper. These types of projects require input from engineers who specialize in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and architecture, among other disciplines, to be completed successfully.

One example of a problem that would require the collaboration of people from several different subcategories is the design of a new bridge. The engineers who specialize in civil engineering would need to work with the architects to design a structure that is both safe and aesthetically pleasing, while the engineers who specialize in metallurgy would need to make sure that the bridge can withstand the weight of traffic.

Some examples of engineering problems that require people from several different subcategories to collaborate with one another are designing a new car or creating a new computer system.

fellow Desis', how do you deal with Parents back home. I would like to care for them but without their interfering in every little detail of my life. I am gay, so I am not their ideal kid, & sense their frustration/feelings of betrayal in every conversation. But I can't stop living my life.
They get upset:
• if i don't tell them about an interview - oh you've already decided
• if I tell them about moving to a different state to be with my partner - oh you've already decided & now informing us

Any Bridge Engineers/Structural Engineers in here? I got my PE this year and have 5 YOE in TX + an MS. What sort of raise would you expect for receiving your PE working in a consulting firm? I am EOR on a number of structures in development, I manage EITs and Drafters (within projects; I'm not a supervisor), and am doing a lot in general. I'm at 78k currently, which is apparently still in the upper range of EIT salaries per a job posting in CO. I'm thinking of 15% (5% merit, 10% PE). Any ideas?

I've been working here for about two years now, and I have to say, I love my job. The company culture is great and the people are wonderful to work with. But recently, I've noticed that my manager has been asking me to do more and more work on my own without giving me any additional compensation for my time. He just keeps telling me that if I want to get ahead, then this is what I need to do.

I'm not sure what to do here—do you have any advice?

I recently got a job offer from a company I used to work for that has a great work/life balance and culture but has a slower track to get promoted. My current employer has a not great work/life balance but it’s much easier to get promoted. Currently 5 years into my career currently bouncing between a project lead and a discipline manager… it’s a decent pay bump- 30%. But is it worth giving up the future potential advancements ?
