McKinsey. Not joking. I rarely work weekends. Rarely work 70 hour weeks. Lots of LOA opportunity. Huge (if relentless) focus on personal development. And I am surrounded by the most interesting and smartest group of people I’ve ever met - most of whom leave to a myriad of other things - in my class alone launching startups, non-profits, leaving to do global development, as well as the usual range of business roles. I’m sure this exists in many other firms as well, we are hardly unique. Good luck in your search.

Then many of us will need referrals lol

BCG. All of the same reasons as McK1 listed above (which I’m sure are also true). A lot of people assume we “work 80+ hrs/week”, which is something I’ve only ever heard exist when people at OTHER firms tell stories about what they’ve heard about BCG (or McK). Wonder why that is 🤔

Hilarious concept, but serious question lol

80 hour weeks are rare but 60 hour weeks aren’t uncommon and I still consider those long hours...

I second that

I feel EY in general is pretty good with this stuff, although I suspect it is largely dependent on what teams/partners you are aligned with. I would imagine the same is also true for many other firms

Feel sorry for you EY5. My last few weeks been terrible too. Looking forward to my vacation now. Hang in there!

Agree. Not deloitte

So in conclusion (according to these replies): all firms do care and allow for OP‘s criteria. Great 👍 🤓

Bain as well. Outside of our Private Equity Group, 80 hr weeks are extremely rare.

Would echo this. PEG was consistently 70-75 hours, with at least one week of 80 per diligence. Outside of that 55 is pretty standard

On my time sheets my work life balance is AMAZING! Only 45 hours a week!

Booz Allen. I have a big group of friends that all went into consulting (Big4, Accenture, IBM, etc.) and I'm pretty sure we're all going to end up at Booz Allen eventually. They have great work life balance and seriously encourage and sponsor personal development.

Tbh I wouldn't be able to speak to that but I know a few are

ATK is very much the same. I think I’m surrounded by a bunch of smart people. Just lesser brand value and lesser amount of people leaving for a myriad of other things as compared to what you’d see at McK / BCG. But then we are also c. 11% / 17% the size of McK / BCG.

Don’t count PwC in ..... I can tell you that much

I think you’d be happy at Slalom. At least worth a conversation depending on the kind of work you want to do.

Unfortunately, I haven’t heard of us doing visa sponsorships, since we’re a mostly local model

LEK fits as well echoing everyone above - we have 60 hour weeks, no travel, we never work weekends (bit at the manager level, none pre MBA), opportunities for sabbaticals / externships / secondments / swap offices, and I like the coworkers!

I think in all firm it really depend on group, in ACN consulting for me has been a pretty balanced and healthy life style. The ties I have gotta wrapped up in a strategy project it has been a death march

like

Haha well strategy is all I do so there ya go..

The federal services side of most firms is generally a slower pace. I think it’s pretty much illegal for you to work more than 40 hours without billing that, where you are just breaking company rules with private companies.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

Can somebody please explain to me why MBB and other top consulting firms are so adamant that you have an MBA? I majored in accounting, finance, and operations management at a top 10 undergrad business school and then got my masters in information systems from the grad school program. I took multiple MBA courses as electives when getting my masters and it seemed like those classes were very basic and easy. Idk if I would learn anything in an MBA program that I hadn’t already learned in undergrad
