I sent emails thanking people that I thought actually deserved thanks. Everyone else was lumped in on farewell email. I went in house though, so partners were reaching out to me

I sent one departure email with forwarding contact information. The people I really cared about I spoke to personally.
I did this when I lateraled, and I think it’s nice to do. I just thanked them for the mentoring/teaching, said I learned a lot working for them, keep in touch, etc.

I think it’s a really personal decision based on the circumstances of your resignation.

Some care and remember. I pour considerable time and effort into associates I work with. Mentoring is one of the bright spots of this career. Having that recognized is always meaningful. But I do get your jaded outlook, as your sentiment is well earned by many firms and many partners
