What are good gifts to send to a team lead who announced they're expecting? Assuming you wait until right before they go on parental leave?

Honestly I think I’d just ask if they had an Amazon registry and that you’d like to wish them well!

Gift card

Door dash gift card

Something from their registry or a restaurant gift card.

In escrow for a home, and Father in law wants to give us more cash so that we can reduce our down payment. Thinking is our property tax and HOA will go up over the years and don’t want to be stuck in my late 50s/60s with high mortgage. Very thankful for the donation, but would rather set aside as emergency fund/investment for us. What would you do?

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. For context I’ve been in company less than a year and there are people who have been in the company 25yrs. I’m thinking of cutting loose before it gets to my turn.

I'm new to consulting.

How often do you come across someone in your firm who makes you think "Wow, is that literally all they do and get paid the same as/more than me?"

Guy 1 - Consultant in charge of communication in a long term implementation project. Sends reminders/updates prepared by others, talks to CEO's assistant to ensure he is aware of emails sent and schedule meetings

Guy 2 - Acts as middle man between the firm's offshore team and people who want to use a proprietary tool

Hi Folks, There is a job opening for @Atlassian right now which exactly suits my experience and skillset. Although I'm on maternity leave right now until December 20th. I'm worried that the opportunity will be closed if I wait until December to apply. Can anyone kindly advise on what to do? Any scope that @Atlassian would even consider waiting for so long plus 60days notice period if I attended interviews now?

Ps: it's my dream company

Found a most enlightening work on decolonial history with tons of TIL moments especially about Anti Colonial movements in Egypt, China, Japan and course India in the 19th and 20th centuries. Most histories this period often adopt a Euro-centric lens but this book flips it and tells the stories of these turbulent times from the vantage point of the pioneering Asian leaders like Tagore, Al Afghani, Kang Youwei etc. Lovers of Asian history would surely appreciate this book

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…

I’m sorry to vent but I’m stuck in this situation where my senior is a racist. Her microaggression just drives me insane and she treats the other white guy staff so much better. I’m tired of this toxic working environment and have zero interest in audit anymore. I desperately need to get out of this but I’m still waiting for my H1B approval. Sometimes I just don’t know if I can keep working another day.

Hi all,

Got a bit of an odd request.

I'm a Project Manager at Sainsbury's based in Holborn and was wondering if anyone would be able to give me a tour of their London Big4 office?? I've never been in their office and I would like to visualise what I'm striving for. Willing to meet up for a coffee before hand or have an initial call. Coffee's on me!

Plan is to purchase some time after 2 years or so. Primarily to save up for a larger down payment.

Here’s my plan of attack:
- $30K saved right now ($20K in IBonds and $10K cash)
- $90K saved by July 2023
-$130K saved by 2023 and target a $800K home

Location: Suburbs of Boston, MA

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.
