In-house lawyers usually have at least 5 years experience, at least some with a firm. I’d try to go to a firm for a couple of years. Government experience (unless DOJ or AUSA) is not generally as well-regarded.

like

Are you currently in biglaw? If so I doubt you’ll see a pay raise.

I am currently with the government.

Stay 2 more years, get more trial experience. Realistically only 2 reasons a Company will hire an in-house employment attorney. 1- they’re yuge and need a full timer to run/coordinate with HR to ensure all protocols/policies are compliant to avoid liability. But these sort of big players have JD’s or an actual attorney running HR, or it’s a role filled in part by a corporate counsel. 2- they are smaller players but with a consistent volume of employment litigation such that it’ll be cheaper to hire a litigator rather than pay a firm. They’re going to want 5-7 years experience, handled and settled hundreds of cases and taken a few of them the distance with juries.

I get $43,000 salary plus commissions so averaging $80 K a year. Any advice?

Interested in the job market in Charlotte. What are you guys doing (role), company, and how much do you currently make?

Is it common in the industry for licensed insurance agents to not get any commissions on a referral in which you personally write the policy? Ex: If a current client refers a prospect to our team, I would not receive commission. Additionally, if I write a policy for friends/family I would get a small incentive but it’s a fraction of the commission producers make.
Management is considering changing this going forward. However, I’m not sure how I should react if they keep things how they are now.

Hi all, question about a senior partner at my firm. He is constantly messaging me late at night about non important things. He went off on me about minor issues in a draft I completed. And while he is on a case with me, is always eager to pass blame onto me, when he has been working on the file as well. I haven’t had issues with any other attorneys at my office. I’m definitely ready to leave over it. Am I being reasonable?

I overheard a small law firm owner saying he will never hire women because the last female attorney he hired ended up being pregnant, and left the firm immediately after her maternity leave was over.
