What are our thoughts about physically fighting a belligerent woman as a man? Genuinely curious, I'm a Male and had a woman get physically aggressive with me yesterday and I could tell she was about to throw hands. Luckily the situation was de-escalated. But it got me thinking I have no idea what I would've done if she out her hands on me... My personal opinion used to be never put my hands on a woman unless my child or family is in danger or if she had a weapon But now Idk anymore

Allowances have been made for physical altercations with women by men who claim to have been provoked, affected by drugs or alcohol or suffering from a mental illness. None of those factors can ever excuse a man physically assaulting a woman whether she’s his partner, a family member, an acquaintance or a complete stranger. If not in imminent danger, a Man should always walk away, and/or call the police. Men should never hit women (actually, I don’t think men or women should hit anybody). That’s about upper body strength, where men/women clearly differ. As a female, I was disheartened to see this topic posed as a question.

C4 isn't it a catch-22 for a guy? You could cause damage to an average guy but I also have to assume that the same training would allow you to beat an average untrained guy in a fight (on technique). As a guy without some type of hand to hand combat training, there has to be a pretty narrow window where, a woman could hurt you if you don't fight back violently but by fighting back you are able to overcome them. It reminds me of playing sports as a kid. There is no upside for a boys team to play a girls team. If they win, they were supposed to because they are physically superior but if they lose it is incredibly shaming.

Generally speaking I will exit all violent situations/ get my loved ones to exit with me if they are in danger. I’ll avoid physical conflict with someone less strong than me just as much as I will with someone stronger, albeit for different reasons. Situations that absolutely necessitate a physical conflict are rare, but if it’s 100% necessary (like someone tries to grab my kid or something and removing us both from the situation doesn’t seem feasible) then I will absolutely do it

Notably, gender doesn’t play an explicit role in my thinking on this

If they throw the first punch, it’s fair game in my opinion.

You’re right, if anyone throws a punch you are simply protecting yourself at that point.

Assess the situation before engage: 1) can you win the fight 2) can you win the lawsuit 3) can you afford the loss of either one or two 🤣

I'd probably try holding her hands to make her stop

likefunnysmart

I would just pull out my phone and start recording hoping for some sweet social media cred or lawsuit material. If you hit that lady, she might be sore for a few days. But if she’s outed as a racist, fired from her job and untouchable because of her aggressive behavior, that’s gonna sting for a while.

I think it’d really depend on the situation - like you mentioned protecting your family or yourself in a dangerous situation. Perfectly okay. If you’re both just drunk at a bar and just get in one of those fights it’s a lose-lose for you. Either you beat up a girl and everyone gives you sh*t for it. Or you get your ass kicked by a girl and your buddies never let you forget it.

like

Ya, lose/lose. Unless she has a male counterpart you can draw into it and redeem yourself by beating him as well. Just thinking outside the box a little here.

You should have clarified the racial slur in the first place. Fair game my dude.

I was taught the same, and that’s what I have lived by. Luckily I haven’t encountered a situation like this. Unless she is armed with a dangerous object or is otherwise posing a direct threat to my safety (say if she raised a glass to throw at me), I would not raise my hand. Even then, I would either push her away or use another way to restrain her vs. literally hitting her.

Was she big? I feel like this is certainly a factor. Some bigger chicks are damn powerfu

Just leave, I am a Karate 3d dan black belt, I also do Judo and Aikido, I learned from my mentors to never use the the art except when my life or the lives of my loved one are in danger.

Depends. But if I had to, I might step hard on their toes and then push them away once they’re off balance and create distance. Then make a scene making it clear she called you a racial slur, repeatedly. To maintain distance, if there is an longish object handy, hold it towards her at her eyes with a stiff straight arm while trying to back off. People tend not to charge at you this way.

Don’t get physical. Call out loudly the misdemeanor and let the court of popular opinion solve the issue. If physical confrontation becomes real. Get in close to her to limit her options and stop defend and block rather than strike.

Always deescalate. Self-defense is only justified when you feel like your life or well-being is in imminent danger. Earlier you said YOU confronted her because of something she said. Best thing to do would’ve been to walk away. Sticks and stones…

I am due to take 2 weeks parental leave sometime in the next month and have an offer lined up. Is it better to tell the new place I would prefer to push my start date to take my leave and join two weeks after (accounting for 2 weeks of notice when I get back)? Would that be burning a bridge with current firm (taking leave and giving notice as soon as I am back)? I want to avoid losing 2 weeks of salary during that time if I can.

How do you all handle tantrums from your toddler during dinner? We finally made it out to have a socially distanced dinner with a female friend of my husband. My toddler started getting really fussy during dinner and my spouse continued his conversation -not wanting to leave. I took the baby on a brief walk but that wasn’t really helping. Spouse still did not want to cut dinner short (we were already on dessert) and he kept his conversation going. I sat down and baby is grabbing plates (cont)
