What are partner hour requirements and how do they differ from associate hour requirements?

I’m sure it varies by firm, but I think at most places partner hours don’t matter and it’s all about the $$ they generate. At my firm, rumor is anything above 1000 in a year is fine (not including semi-retired people who bill like, maybe 5 hrs/ month).

Not sure I understand your question. But being a partner is geometrically more difficult than being an associate. Most successful biglaw partners work 3000+ hours per year minimum. What specifically do you want to know.

Not that bad. I billed maybe 20 hours after that blast of work and finished the year around 2200. The key is taking time away. I take at least 1 and usually 2 multi week vacations a year during which I totally check out. No contact at all. That’s the key.

My firm expects 1900+ billable for associates and 1400+ for partners on the expectation that the partners are spending all that extra time bringing in new business etc

like

300+ lawyer firm had an 1800 billable/600 non-billable minimum expectation for partners.

My old firm had a higher hours requirement for partners (I think about 2100) but they allowed more business development hours to count towards it.

For us when at partner level hours don’t really matter. Cash in matters

I’ve done PI work my entire career for over 10 years. I’ve worked in state and federal courts and I’ve traveled around the country doing MDL work and bellwether trials. I’ve had a lot of success making the idiots I’ve worked for wealthy, but I’m still waiting for a moment where I enjoy what I’m doing. I feel stuck working in dysfunctional plaintiff firms/cultures. I hate this profession/career more and more each year. Has anybody been successful breaking off on their own in recent years? Advice?

I have a question about mid-size Philadelphia firms. Does anyone have any insight about what life is like (culture, pay, billable hours, cases, WFH, perks, etc.) as a junior partner/senior associate/of counsel in the litigation department at the following firms: Montgomery McCracken, Schnader Harrison, Stradley Ronon, Dilworth Paxson, Klehr Harrison?

My firm has ~50 attorneys and is the best in the field. all decisions are made by one man, eg bonuses, raises, promotions. There is no transparency. The only objective measure might have been billing. The billing requirement is 1900/ yr, but a total of ~200 hours are no-charged automatically, and he goes after closing the case and no charges hours based on factors unknown. The result is that no one can track their own billables, and the criteria for bonuses are a mystery. Is this normal?
