I’m really sorry for all of u guys for going through this. So lucky to be gay.
I know I was getting married to the right girl when my wife was content with a 5K ring instead of the three month salary BS. Diamond rings are a modern day scam.
My fiance spent 2.5K and I absolutely love it. He originally chose one that was 4K. We both value a lifestyle where we live below our means. Diamonds are a scam, a beautiful and amazing one, but a scam nonetheless.
Look at a lab grown one, much cheaper and hard to tell the difference
I really didn’t want a diamond because of the whole de Beers diamond ridiculousness and the price of it all. My ring is moissanite from Charles & Colvard (designed by Rosados Box on Etsy), which is naturally occurring in meteorites and very similar to a diamond $1750 and people stop me on the street to compliment it all the time. I love it! The only downside is that I wish it didn’t look like a diamond because I’m not pretending that it is one. I picked it because it was beautiful.
I spent 5k on just over a carat. It’s blinding. Looking back I’d just get a synthetic. Same properties no bs markup.
Spent ~1.5k on a custom designed ring with a non-diamond stone. If your fiance-to-be is not tied to the diamond idea you can do so much more for so much less. Personally think diamonds are a ridiculous scam, but others really enjoy them and it's all about what it means to you and your partner.
I picked a ring from a spin-off company of diamond nexus called forever artisans. It’s beautiful and looks custom, and for our income and lifestyle no one would ever guess it’s not real. $2k for a ring that looks like $20k+ and I adore it. We couldn’t bare the thought of dropping that much cash on a ring 🤷♀️
If it doesn’t matter to fiancé, why not a man made diamond? It mattered to me because I was in jewelry before consulting. My husband spent ~$55k on my diamond but I would’ve spent less. However I do love it and the ring as well, and it will maintain value. Best to maximize clarity and cut. Color I think is the least important, especially with yellow gold making a comeback. Honestly, it would be hard to beat bluenile for pricing and quality at almost all budget levels if going for natural diamond, and they are conflict free.
My husband got me a 2ct solitaire and he spent about $15k. Conflict free too. I absolutely love my diamond, but I feel guilty for loving it because diamonds are basically a scam. Plus, that’s a lot of money to spend. I still love it.
I spent about 7k. Prioritize a higher quality cut, then clarity and color. Consider carat last
Try to find a reputable family jeweler. If you live in a different state, you may not have to pay tax.
Check out rarecarat.com. No retailer takes inventory of the stones and they all source on-demand from the same set of suppliers. The same stone will be on the market from multiple retailers at different prices.
I spent about 19k, BUT that was five years after we married because she agreed that paying off the wedding and buying a house were the priority. We married with just solid bands. Five years in, I felt like she deserved a little splurge.
Check out brilliant Earth or blue Nile - can get a lab grown diamond for less. Ended up spending around 9k.
What about Angara? Anyone use them?
0 usd.. spending on gold silver and diamond is unreasonable, so as is a lot of other stuff we do as humans.
1800, sapphire
Planning on spending 30k
+1 for synthetic, de beers is going to make them and laser engrave a super tiny mark on them since they can’t even tell them apart from real ones it seems. Just make sure she’s onboard obviously, not something you want her to find out later.

Pwc3, de beers only making for fashion, not bridal fwiw. 800 bucks / ct hard to beat, though.
