What are people’s thoughts on possibilities of a union organizing within a consulting firm?

Unions are designed to protect the lowest common denominator. Consulting is just not assembly line work (despite some partner's best efforts to sell as much BAU bullshit white collar assembly line work as they can). Why would I be for protecting the shitbags who make my life (and the client's life) miserable by not pulling their weight? Up or out. Sink or Swim.

A union implies people are united against a common oppressor or capitalist extorter. In reality, Consulting is a pyramid and you’ll rarely find this altruism!

I have thought about this a lot. I come from multiple union environments: academia, governments, etc. Even my family has deep union stripes at multiple levels of industry and in government. I have seen the benefits for some few (say, in negotiating what a job description should really be) but I have seen a lot of the disadvantages as well, especially for those on the lower and on the higher ends of the org structure and payscale. One of the main reasons why I like EY is because it isn't a union environment but the culture on my team is still good.
