North bethesda is great as well ! Rockville is great ! Just depends on the zip code ! I have a 3 year old and I live in Rockville. My zip code is 20854 and my son can attend the schools in Potomac but the houses are way cheaper than Potomac in my neighborhood . Rockville is also close to 270 , 495 and bethesda . So many things to do as family around that area and the mall! I could keep on going but it’s great to buy, settle down and have a family !
20854 Represent!
Born in 20878 Gaithersburg, raised in 20854 Potomac glen Churchill district. Honestly growing up in that neighborhood was the best. Over the summer I had so many friends were we would bike and play outside and we could walk to each other’s houses. I also hung out with a lot of folks from Wootton 20850 and if you want your kid can also test for the IB/Magnet programs at Richard Montgomery or Blair HS. School districts are great and it’s a great place to raise children.
There are great areas all over moco... diverse and continuously building up. Schools are hit or miss depending on the area - I love Gaithersburg, especially the kentlands area!
👋 neighbors!
Put through an offer this past week on the place out there. Fingers crossed they accept it or come back with something within reason! The wife and I have been in that area the last two weekends and I’m pretty sure we’re both in love with the place and area.
So excited! Please keep us posted! Our goal to move back in the next 1-2 years once we get the down payment squirreled away.

Any particular reason you’re looking there?
Mainly prices lol. And it’s still metro accessible. Wife doesn’t like condo living so looking for a townhouse that isn’t a 900k +. Rockville seems to have a nice selection, with the added benefit of being able to hop on the metro. Were from the south so also still suffering from sticker shock around here
OP, that’s an hour long metro ride to get downtown. I did it for awhile, but eventually had to shorten my commute for quality of life.
Thanks guys. FYI, I WFH so not too concerned about the commute time. I only ever will be in DC on a weekend, or if I need to get to DCA

I think it’s great. I wish I lived in Norther Bethesda and Rockville area. Tons of good restaurants and things to do. Very nice areas to hang out, pretty safe, and good schools. But the other half of Rockville can be ghetto.
Is it really 'ghetto' or are there just a lot of working class immigrant (i.e. Hispanic and African) neighbourhoods on that side ?
I’d take a look at the townhouses in Merrifield in VA over those spots in Maryland.
I think Churchill >>>> Marshall
Grew up in this area. Lots to like and dislike- depending on what you’re looking for.
Metro is convenient and since you aren’t doing it everyday- even better. DCA is 30-40 min driving if you are going early AM. If it’s rush hour, 60-90 depending on traffic that day.
MoCo has the highest taxes and they are only going up. Maryland is currently considering a ‘sales tax’ on services that Hogan is pushing against.
I’m WFH as well and we chose to live a bit further out. Happy to chat some more if you want to DM.
