TalkSpace is a digital therapy option. I've never used it, and I don't know anyone who has, but it's $50/week for unlimited texting with a therapist.
Can you do a search on your insurance provider’s website? Login to their portal (if you’ve set up an account). Or you can call your insurance directly. I have BCBS and I’ve found a fabulous therapist near my office where I just pay the $20 copay. Couldn’t be happier!
It’s a text based app. They respond to you with a base number of responses primarily just asking you more questions. At times I felt as if I was communicating with a bot. It’s incredibly expensive for how little you get out of it.
Check your benefits, some companies have an EAP that covers therapy sessions. Worth giving a shot.
Find anyone in your insurance network who takes new patients and give it a shot. Just break the seal and talk to someone, anyone. I’ve seen several different therapists over the past five years, it’s not odd to go from one to another until you’re comfortable.
With my basic health insurance through my agency, my therapy appointments (in network) are only $70! Before that I was using Betterhelp for $160 a month and that worked for me too.
Talkspace is awful
@FCB1 can you elaborate?
If you do find someone out if network, ask if they take patients on a sliding scale, or can refer you to someone who can. A lot of therapists (especially in states where insurance companies treat mental health professionals like trash) don’t take insurance because it’s a hassle for them as well as the patient, and would rather work with their patients directly to determine a fee that’s fair to both parties. If they can’t, 9 times out of 10 they will be very proactive about helping digging into their network and finding a therapist who’d be a good fit for you.
Insurance might also reimburse you depending on the doc. Check your policy, it can be a huge help.
