Saving 90% of income is unreasonable and frankly impossible in NYC. Have some fun.

How would you even do that? Do you live with your parents?

I really like an app called ‘spending tracker’ (the icon is a little brown wallet) It basically lets you pick whatever categories you want and you can track manually what you spend and assign each purchase to a category. It was really eye opening for me. Like some categories I was aware of and then others (such as ordering food) I was totally blown away how much I was actually spending in, so then I could cut back.

Use your bank app's autosave feature

I paid 775 for rent with roommates and still managed to save only 65-70%. I guess if you make a lot a lot you can save 90% but for me it would have been impossible.

YNAB! You Need a Budget. The learning curve is a bit high but I love love love it and it’s really changed how I think about money! Highly recommend. Nick True has some videos on YT going over how to use it.

Pretty naive when it comes to investments. I was talking to the financial planner service my company offers and they suggested a mix of Large Cap Stock 40%, Small Cap Stock 10%, and Foreign Stock 50%. I'm a 27 year old male so still a ways off from retirement. Does this sound reasonable?

Recommended tax preparers in NYC/CT/online or layman's guide to multi state returns diy? NYC office but CT resident and 80% travel, filing a nonresident nys return has me wrapped around the axle.

I’ll preface with I’m new at this and learning. But I’m researching if I should do an IRA or back door Roth IRA. And maybe I don’t fully understand how taxes work but what is the benefit of a Roth? From my understanding, the amount of tax you pay is mainly based on your tax bracket. Wouldn’t I pay far less taxes (thus inadvertently getting more money) with a traditional Ira since me being retired would put me in a lower tax bracket than me well along in my career?

24F, moving to NY for a year or so for work. Originally, I was looking in WV, Chelsea, Soho etc to live more downtown, ideally in a luxury building. While I can afford it, I travel a lot personally and am having a hard time justifying the high rent if I’m going to be in and out. Trying to decide if I should find a roommate for the more downtown spots, or go to UWS, really liked it and could be cheaper? For people who travel a lot and live in NY, which neighborhoods and how do you budget?
