What are some career changes to get out of a tax role? I am going into my third year as a senior with background in tax compliance and provisions and will be getting promoted to manager before making any moves. I’m feeling completely burned out with the long hours and lack of work life balance. I would like to be making the same money I am now if possible so hoping to hit 6 figures if I do leave accounting.

I did this after making Manager and moved into an internal tax department at a Fortune 500 company. Work life balance was much better overall but I honestly got bored of the monotony and bureaucracy. So after 3 years I came back to public accounting at a regional firm and am much happier. Have you considered going to a smaller firm or do you want out of tax in general?

I'm in the same boat, starting 3rd year senior, same tax background. I have no interest in staying longer. Ideally, data science would be a great exit. If you pick up a coding language and visualization platform, the tax background is solid for analytical work. Starting pay is on par with your expectations and has a much higher ceiling than tax, assuming not everyone makes it to exec suite or partner.

How about nursing? You usually work 3 12 hour shifts with opportunity for overtime. You can work on hobbies or another side hustle during your days off. My friends and family who are nurses seem to love it, so I’m looking into it as well.

How does one get into strategy / mgmt consulting without having an MBA? Are mgmt consulting jobs only reserved for MBA grads? I feel like I have great ideas that I could put forth and potentially do a good job as a mgmt consultant but I come from an accounting/tax technology background (CPA).. would I just never be relevant for a consulting role unless I got an MBA?

What’s a good role for someone who isn’t passionate about the corporate world but wants to live a certain quality of life? I was stressed and unfulfilled as a consultant so switched to an industry role (in the office of CIO, total comp is <$200k) and am now bored with the work and my much older coworkers. Am I destined to hate my job or have I not found the right one? Am in my late 20s without career goals or trajectory that excite me and considering grad school as a way to pivot

Recently exited to corporate as a manager in a strategy role. The place is great, but I realize I don't have dedicated folks to make slides for me similar to consulting, and end up making quite few on my own (which is not the most efficient - since it has been a while since I made slides e2e with the formatting et. al). When one tends to apply consulting rigor into the process - this can get quite time consuming. Anyone else face this? How did you handle it?

I really like the work done in consulting, but am not interested in the selling/relationship building process required of higher levels in this job. At what level should I plan to exit consulting if I want to stay as long as possible without my job becoming chasing work to sell? Currently a second year Associate (out of undergrad). I’m guessing I should exit 1-2 years after reaching Manager level?...
