What are some exit opportunities for person who has external Fed IT audit(FISCAM/FISMA/SOC) and DoD IT audit readiness experience with TS/SCI poly? I’m not planning to do IT controls for all of my life and want to know what is out there. Help me!

The harsh truth is your going to need to learn a new skillset, so pick something that interests you and pursue it. IT audit doesn’t really have any easy exit opportunities.

Software engineering (coding), data science, and cybersecurity are all hot and will continue to be hot fields for quite some time as long as you have the right skillset. Maybe start looking at those three and pick whichever interests you the most. That’s what I did and landed on cybersecurity.

Do a coding bootcamp and learn to code.

IS (compliance) and risk management. Both still deal with controls. I went from audit readiness to a F50 doing risk management

If you are good, go independent and consult for healthcare and financial services clients.

I was in the same boat, get out of audit work. I picked up Data Analytics (R, Python, Tableau). I finally found a nice role within the Intel community. I still get recruiters calling me for audit gigs. I always debate on taking that stint with Deloitte out of my resume.

I accepted an offer today for a consulting role after working in risk management and being worried I would have to accept an audit role and become pidgeonholed -- DM'ing you.

We got openings, dm me!

I have not been on a project for over 3 months. Since I joined, I have been put in training. The training got extended by a month and now it's close to 4 months since I joined and without a project.

What should I do? People say that I'm lucky to get paid without doing any work, but it is stressing me out. I need the experience. The uncertainty is freaking me out, with rumours of layoffs and the certification program and all.

How do I get into a project? How long do I have to wait more?

Got an offer with a 35% bump doing similar work and with the option with some remote (usually work in the office full time). Commute is a tad longer and its a small, young firm. I’ve always worked for the big guys — Deloitte, ACN. I guess the worry is the unknown of a small firm with only a handful of contracts. Granted I do hold a TS/SCI w/ poly, so if it goes bust I should be fine job security wise. Go for it?
