What are some “fair” news sources? I’m sick of both extreme sides. It’s overwhelming trying to figure out what’s accurate anymore.

https://www.allsides.com/media-bias/media-bias-chart They have a chart with their biases ratings but also compile multiple articles from different sources on the same news headline so you can view things from different perspectives. I also find it interesting just to see how much word choice in titles can away the reader in those.

South China Morning Post (SCMP) A bit like the WSJ of Hong Kong. Great and highly comprehensive coverage of international events. Owned by Jack Ma (not by the CCP). The publication is well regarded in Asia and tends to present US politics from a very unbiased position

And who do you think owns Jack Ma? 🙄

Associated Press, Reuter’s, NPR. Read the news instead of watching it.

Reporting unflattering facts is now bias apparently.

NYT does a good job with long form features and investigative journalism as well as their data driven work like The Upshot.

I find reading The Economist is a balanced source.

Some foreign news sources are usually better. BBC and Reuters come to mind.

Don’t get me wrong, all media does have bias (they’re being reported by humans). Media should do their best to maintain neutral but it’s also our responsibility as citizens to be aware of the bias while reading up on news. There are multiple sources for a reason. Pick out the sources that lean too heavy to the left or right and simply don’t get your news from them. I wish that people would stop supporting the president’s dangerous narrative that the free press is the enemy of the people. That is NOT true. The ability for the press to report freely without fear of getting locked up is precious to our country. I promise you that we are way better off with having a free press than a government controlled news outlet. Now on a side note, has anyone thought at all that maybe the news reporting sounds extreme and radical simply because the current administration has taken so many unprecedented and extreme actions over the past 3.5 years?

like

Idk what you’re talking about but you can choose to not get your sources from there if you have reasonable belief that they are purposely reporting lies with no facts to back up their claims. Which isn’t the case with NYT. Keep in mind that it’s important you don’t only pick and choose from sources that fit your narrative. Learn to read news you may not like but still accept it as the truth. Be mature enough to determine what is exaggerated and what is truth by looking at the objective facts.

Financial Times is by far my favorite and well worth the subscription

Very expensive though...almost like a cable subscription!

There really aren’t many. So I find it best to look at a bunch, with my eyes open to the fact that they’re bias. Washington Post (left bias) Wall st Journal (right bias) Reuter’s (euro-centric bias)

The economist, Al Jazeera, AP news

like

Just to weigh in here: Al Jazeera is owned by the Qatari Government. The Qatari government was caught and condemned by the Anti Defamation League in 2019 for promoting a school textbook for children with an entire chapter dedicated to Jews seeking world domination. Every news source comes with the bias of its leadership. In the case of Al Jazeera, this leadership happens to be a government that has a longstanding reputation of distrusting and stereotyping Jews. They’re one of the Arab monarchies, let’s not kid ourselves, Jews make them uncomfortable at best. Google it and you’ll find that article from the ADL if you don’t believe me.

Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). Both my wife and I have been sick most of that time as well (gotten it from the baby). Wife is thinking we get a full time nanny for the next 4 months to help the baby build antibodies. Cost aside, is this feasible / worthwhile to go thru the effort / finding the right fit, only for 4 months?
