What are some good alternatives to hospital gowns for L&D, and what would you recommend for right after? New mom here, due in May

For after, I lived in nursing tanks and yoga pants.

For delivery, the hospital gowns were fine for me. It’s a messy affair and I didn’t want want to ruin anything of mine. For after, I showered and changed right into high waisted yoga pants (vaginal delivery, not c-section), nursing tank (no bra) and a shirt over top. I liked feeling “human” again once I had delivered. For me, I didn’t go with anything cute as I was worried stuff would get ruined and I knew that comfort was going to be more important.

I did the same :)

With my first, I bought clothes, nursing bras, etc and ended up just staying in the hospital gown. It was way more comfortable and so much easier with nursing, bleeding, check ups, etc. Second time around, I’m probably just going to bring a robe and wear that so I look a little better.

Plans are fine, but don’t be too attached to any one thing. I had plans, & brought a bunch of clothes, but in the end, I suffered some bladder complications that kept me in a hospital gown for 3 days (because lots of catheters). I didn’t end up using any clothes I brought , except nursing bras. Keep it comfy & flexible. Good luck!

I wore my hospital gown with a special robe I bought...anything works but pants will not be comfortable. I was in way too much pain to consider anything restrictive on the nether regions haha

I left the hospital 24 hours later, so just hospital gown there, yoga pants to go home.

I wore this while in labor and for delivery and was really happy with it - inexpensive, comfortable, had all the features of a hospital gown and made me feel a little more like myself

Thank you!

I brought a soft nightgown but in the end, I wore the hospital gown. It was messy and things were leaky. The last thing I wanted was to create heinous laundry for myself or ruin something that I really wanted to wear. I saved it for when I was at home and my body was more healed

I considered buying a hospital gown alternative but was glad I didn’t bother. The regular hospital gowns are fine! They’re practical and also usually quite soft and comfortable. I brought a nice cotton robe to wear over it for when people were visiting. When I got to shower, I changed into my own PJs. Wore yoga pants/nursing top combo to leave the hospital.

I used the gowns and only wore my clothes when I was leaving. I asked for extra mesh panties and after I ran out of those at home i lived in nursing dress nighties and granny panties

I legitimately do not remember what I wore during labor, that’s how much of a blur the experience was. Agree on yoga pants and comfy clothes during recovery!!! Also, if you have big boobs, nursing tanks won’t cut it. Invest in good quality nursing bras early on, it will make a difference in the long run

I just stayed in the hospital gown, I thought it was really “free” and quite comfortable 🤷🏼‍♀️ I did bring a robe. Delivery was messy so I don’t think I’d recommend your own gown for before/during delivery.

I only packed a go home outfit, because I didn’t really think about it. I was at a hospital that had breastfeeding classes each morning, and I was the only one who showed up rocking a hospital gown still. Didn’t care and probably wouldn’t change that. Was happy to let them do that piece of laundry.

I brought a snuggly oversized black bathrobe. Nice to be cozy!

I found some super soft nightgowns at Target and Kohl's with buttons down the front so they were loose and accessible like a hospital gown, easy for breastfeeding, but way softer and made me feel more human than the hospital fabric.
Also bought my own soft, fuzzy, gripper socks because the hospital ones are like prison socks.

+ one for your own soft gripper socks. I ended up in the hospital for 4 days, & was glad I packed extra pairs.

I agree with super grippy socks. I got this great robe from Milkmaid Goods and a coordinating swaddle which was awesome for pics because I was definitely not getting dressed. I had nursing bras and then i brought a nightgown and pajama pants/top and ended up preferring the nightgown for before the catheter removal and the pants after. I was in the hospital for about 6 days and it was just nice to have my own stuff.

I was buck naked except for a nighttime nursing bra for L&D of the first, gown for the 2nd. Once real labor pains start you will not care what you have on- everything is annoying- and I was so damn hot. And after you’re a mess and constantly getting checked on down there. Bring nursing bras, 1 comfy outfit and something to wear home.

I brought my own gown for L&D and soo thankful I did. It really helped me to be comfortable and feel like “me”. I changed into it when we got to the hospital and changed out of it hours after delivery. Also recommend button down or nursing pajamas

I bought this nightgown, but didn’t wear it during labor. I wore it after I was allowed to shower to feel more like myself again. I bought some comfy non skid cute socks that read “Baby you’re worth it!” for after labor as well. Since labor and delivery are messy and leaky, I wore the hospital gown and non skid socks. After the birth and after I could shower, then I brought out my cute and comfy stuff.
