Hi! I see these questions a lot so I just wanted to add some context. While not impossible, it will be hard to go from non-design to design unless you have a portfolio of work. If you want to do UX/UI, you’ll need to show UX/UI work in your folio. If you want to do art direction, you’ll need to show ad campaigns. Motion/interaction would involve videos and animations. Etc. etc. There is no easy way to get into design just by knowing software. UI has to have solid strategy behind it and validation. UX requires experience in research, synthesizing data, and talking to people. Art direction means thinking holistically about a campaign and brand. All entry level jobs are good. But can you clarify what “good” means to you? Do you mean low effort/not as gate-keepy? Do you mean challenging for your career growth? Going to need some more context :)

Oh dear, OP. Like I said before, you need design work to get design jobs. There is nothing that is spectacularly low-barrier for UX other than pro-Bono work but even then, just because it is unpaid doesn’t mean they don’t have standards. The companies will still have standards. You have to put in time and effort to get that UX job (or any design job). I would advise you to start learning on your own by taking classes or watching YouTube videos about UX, and then do spec work/mock projects. I stress again - this takes time. It means dedicating yourself to doing these things after work hours and on weekends. If you work super hard for 4-6 months on 3 excellent projects, you can get an internship. There is no just “applying to design jobs” without having previous experience. You need to show employers you know how to do the majority of the work they are asking for. It’s not fair, but design is a competitive field. I was trying to reserve judgement, but frankly you sound like don’t truly understand the design disciplines and the work that goes into being a designer. What makes you want to go into design? And why UX? What’s driving you?

Also, what is motivating the switch? why is design appealing to you and what aspects of the industry or craft are interesting to you?

Super Hypothetical and narrow question: All else equal, would you vote for the other party if the parties swapped or flipped their position on taxes. So if you’re a Republican and all the sudden Republicans wanted to raise taxes on those making over 400k and everything else, would you vote for a dem? If you’re a Democrat would you vote for a Republican, just because now they’re raising taxes, etc?

Here's the situation. I'm a freelance accountant. I have several part time clients, and one main 30-40/hr/week client. This is about the big one. Again, I report to the COO. The COO is "working" in exchange for greater equity in the company and a crap ton of pay along the way. Cont.

I'm a Microsoft Dynamics and C# Developer at a Big 4 consulting firm. But... working with Dynamics for the last 5 or 6 years is starting to wear on me. The salary is great because there is a shortage of qualified Dynamics developers, but I want to do something else, even if that's just back to being a run of the mill C# Developer. Maybe this is more of a rant or I'm letting off steam, but has anybody on here ever essentially gone from a specialized type of roll to more general role?
