I would get a road bike shoe [Shimano, Pearl Izumi] from a bike shop/REI and get the correct cleat installed.
Edit: agree with the comment below - a basic shoe is fine for indoor cycling!
You can definitely spend under $100 on indoor spin shoes. Shimano makes some good ones.
You don’t need anything super fancy since it won’t have to withstand rain
Fizik is a good entry level. You have to buy the clips separately from the shoes.
Tiems!
Have had Tiems for a few years but they unclip easily from the SoulCycle pedal. Like I’ve been mid-sprint in class and my foot unclipped. Just depends which type of bike/pedal you’re using!
Someone pointed this out and it’s a great point. It’s not about the shoe, it’s about the clips & pedals.
Almost all spin classes use the LOOK Delta pedals. I would recommend a clip with a high or mid float (9dg or 4.5dg). If you want to move to a low float clip, it’s great but make sure your form is correct.
If you’re riding outside use a LOOK KEO clip W/ KEO pedals.
