I was recently given the opportunity to apply as Solution Engineer with a path to transition into a Sales Engineer at a nice company, but they decided to not move forward with my application after I applied. It's something my companies have always said yes to, with no hesitation. Plus your PTO most likely won't change until you get those tenure increases (5 years, 10 years...) so DO IT. The worst thing they can say is that it's against company policy to change PTO policy for 1 person.
