-How do you define success in this role?
-Did you foresee yourself in this position 5 years ago?
-How is the company keeping up with the changes in the work environment due to covid? Do you feel adequately supported by management?
But the best questions are asked by listening to the information they’re spitting at you: the history of the company, the growth they’ve had the past few years, the changes they’re going through, etc and formulate questions based on those and throw it back at them. Half listen and half think what’s good to ask during the interview.
For instance, if they say they went through a huge merger or they are under massive growth- like above, ask how they’re keeping up with the needs of their employees: “Usually employees are under massive stress due to the changes brought upon by new management, new software, new procedures, etc. how is the company ensuring that employee morale and needs are met?”
Obviously avoid talk about compensation, or if vacation days, etc. you ask those when you interview with HR not the managers and seniors. Instead of asking if it’s a 9-5, ask them to provide what daily work life is like.
I always ask what is their favorite part of their job and what would they change if they could. In my experience, I have gotten great feedback on these questions.
