1) set up a real budget. No one likes doing this but it’s a life saver
2) plan for automatic savings in your budget, and send those to a savings account monthly
3) for groceries/shopping/meals, take out cash for the week and don’t go over. If you don’t have enough at the register then put something back
4) aggressively cut unnecessary expenses, like that subscription to something you used once two years ago that they still charge you for
5) when traveling, stay in a place with a kitchen to make your dinners and lunches
Ok you will have fixed expenses (mortgage or rent) and variable
Try using a resource like Mint to understand where all your money is going, and create a realistic budget that'll allow you to scale back on spending.
If you have loans, look into refinancing at lower rates.
If you have capacity, consider picking up an additional income stream.
Meal prep.. make your own coffee.. workout at home.. do ur own hair/nails.. all things that make life miserable.. good luck
Figure out what you can realistically save - 5%, 10%, 20% - it doesn’t matter. Then set up a direct debit when your salary hits your account. Then don’t sweat that you aren’t saving more. Saving is a habit. You should start small then build.
