If you’re making those typos, you’re not ready 😏
you perfect all your hard skills at the AE level. Ability to execute with excellence. See things through from A to B. Solving for barriers and issues when hitting roadblocks. Managing up and out and down well with great communication. At the AS level, you start to know when projects need to pivot, when to say no vs yes to clients and even cross functionally, how to deal with conflict, softer skills like tailoring your approach based on individual team or client needs and expectations, presenting more persuasively
management skills. INTERNAL conflict resolution (because team members argue). so much of being an AE is executional (because....duh). In the AS role you need to be able to deal with people and not just projects. it literally is middle management.
Ugh “management skills”?
Honestly, Account people that think their job is to “manage” people are the worst. At any level.
In account, Your job is to lead by example. Get shit done. Be organized as hell. Polished and articulate. Well spoken. Perfection in your writing. All at the junior levels.
Beyond that at your level, become an expert in production. Learn the finances and manage them flawlessly
GAD1 & Managing Director 1 nail it. Do those things & you’ll be fine. Managing Director is right that many AE’s ultimately think the goal is to get above the work & just get caught up in “managing people.” Rather, you have to get great stuff done — while managing through the personalities. You have to have excellence in the outcomes.
