Good service and deep relationships with your clients means 10 times more than any letters you’ll ever get. People want to be taken care of and know you are putting their interests ahead of your own. Letters don’t accomplish that

Could not agree more with this statement. Letters show you can pass tests. Seen plenty of advisors with designations fly off the rail and do stupid stuff when markets go haywire. Can’t teach good behavior.

MBA

like

I can help someone sell a business without having an MBA. I link them with a solid attorney and accountant and from my own business and life experience , I’m pretty sure I can ask enough of the right questions and assemble a team around the client. I don’t need an MBA to do that.

CFP & CPA

I agree^

As an FA.. The CFP is what matters, if anybody else tells you anything else, it’s probably because they don’t have the certification. However, the truth is the certification helps to legitimize you and gain trust from the client quicker. In real practice though, the average person doesn’t actually ask if you are CFP, a few people would ask if you are a fiduciary and if they like you, they will work with you. So if you’re planning on studying for anything, the CFP is the difference between working with the para legal and the attorney. Both can give you some advice, the latter is more competent and it shows during the client relationship.

The only one a client will recognize or care about is the CFP

And in 23 years of practice I have had maybe 5-10 people ask me about designations. Maybe

I think it depends on what you want your business to be. If you specialize in asset management, get a CFA. If you specialize in financial planning, get a CFP. If you want to help clients with tax work as well and be in more complicated business transactions, get a CPA.

I am tired of consulting. I am forced to work with different technology each time I change a project and they expect me to a be an expert in it. Recently I was asked to do Google Cloud certification and then I was dumped into Azure implementation l, which is a new technology to me.

I am three years post graduation and I feel like consulting is a terrible place to learn. I get 0 realistic support from managers as they expect me to be driving things on my own.

Feb CA Bar Exam results out on Friday and my anxiety is at an all-time high. Posting here bc I'm already a big law attorney in another state, so everyone in my life keeps telling me it doesn't matter and I shouldn't be stressed. Obviously I know that it doesn't technically matter in the sense that I will still have a job, I will still be an attorney, and not a lot will immediately change based on the results. But it was a lot of work, and I don't want to think about doing it again if I failed.
