Bicycle mechanic -> Tax accountant

Any regrets?

Criminal defense attorney —> tax consultant

Exciting for sure, there was plenty of drama and never a dull moment (outside of court, which is super boring). But it also got depressing real quick and a hell of a lot more stressful. I absolutely love tax in comparison and will never look back.

I am a nurse currently working in an ICU (overall 2 years total RN experience) and completely burned out from bedside nursing and the crappy pay. I’m interested in nurse consulting but have no idea where to start or if I am even qualified for such a position. Anybody have experience with this?

I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences, a Bachelors in nursing, and currently in a BSN-to-DNP program… no experience in consulting, just clinical experience

Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). Both my wife and I have been sick most of that time as well (gotten it from the baby). Wife is thinking we get a full time nanny for the next 4 months to help the baby build antibodies. Cost aside, is this feasible / worthwhile to go thru the effort / finding the right fit, only for 4 months?

I’m so sad at the moment. I just found out I have a uterine polyp and will have to do a procedure to get it removed. My husband and I have been TTC for nearly a year now. We’ve each had blood and sperm tests done before with everything coming back within the normal range. Finding out about this today makes sense why we haven’t conceived yet but it’s still emotionally draining. Any words of encouragement?

Isn’t now the best time to start your own business? There is a shortage of labor so firms/companies can’t handle all the work and so there should be plenty of opportunities out there. If you succeed, great! If you don’t succeed then at least you learned how a business works and all the admin that comes with it and the labor market should still be good for you to find a job again if that’s the route you want to take.

Need some advice. Got two great offers from big fours, and another one from a regional firm (bigger not too small). I like the big four names and their leadership seems good; but the regional firm’s partner is the senior manager I worked with at GT. She always cared for me and my career. I would love to work with her again. What would you have chosen? Money and benefits are not that far from each other; even if, won’t be my first concern

As a manager how many hours is normal to bill per week?

Thoughts on the Proposed tax bill?

Help me understand how keeping track of hours relate to what is actually billed to the client when we are preparing tax returns faster with “auto flow” or “sure prep”? Am I mistaken that we still charge what a tax return is “worth” regardless of how quick we prepare it? Seems like keeping track of hours is just a way to keep us busy, and the reward for finishing under budget is just more work at the hopes of a “bigger” raise.
