“Appreciate your time and consideration. I don’t think I’m the right fit for this job at this time.”
I would still take the interview and try to negotiate for higher salary
How much are you expecting for this role?
Would you take the job for $10K more? If not, then just tell them you don’t think it’s a fit and move on. If they ask why, just say you think the comp is low for the job and see what they say.
Alternative view - do you like the company size and industry? If so, then consider giving it a shot if you can financially do it and don’t have better options. Sometimes you have to put in your dues. You’ll get great experience and can leverage that for a higher paying job. Bc in reality, if they were willing to pay more, they’d probably be shooting for more experience on your side too.
