What are some unethical things you’ve done at work?

Glad that's the extent of your wild side! When I was a staff, I heard a story about a (former) manager who got the boot after starting to run his boat payments through his expense report. More recently I personally know a partner who was let go (big 4) for running personal items through his expense report. Silly way to loose a 7 figure career and personal reputation and credibility. I also know of a former partner who got caught in an FBI sting sharing inside info. Another dumb way to lose a great career, etc. All crazy and stupid things to do. Sounds preachy....but we all need to do the right thing at all times. We cant allow ourselves to cross the line. Once we lose our integrity, we are done. On my team, zero tolerance for crossing the line.

Random smaller non-receipt-required transactions charged for wellness subsidy or food. Didn't have my CPA so would charge some of my vacation time to CED (studying) to save PTO. When I became a senior and I didn't have anything urgent and was sitting opposite my staff I'd spend a good chunk of the day surfing the internet. As a staff 2 I came across a small difference in testing here and there, and depending on what it was there were times I just didn't record it as a difference and went on my way because it was immaterial, my senior didn't check support, and I just didn't care.

Left work at 6pm

Went into the partner's office late one night when everyone else was gone and solved his rubics cube.

Helped plan a work Happy Hour for the industry group and the partner that was supposed to pick up the tab had to leave early so he asked me to pick it up. We were nowhere close to hitting the budget for the HH so I took it upon myself to buy 4 shots of Louis XIII before I closed out (for me and the three others that were left at the end of the event).

Sometimes I say “lol” in group chats but I’m not actually laughing out loud 😬
