First year analyst here. Whenever I’m asked to add icons to a deck, I actively try to use women instead of men. It’s small but makes me feel like I’m contributing in some way 😜

I’ve done this too! 😄

I have fun using female pronouns for all my hypothetical examples. Example: so when you are talking to a CEO, imagine she says xyz... Kind of fun to break the mold on default pronouns being male.

The partner on my project does that (he’s M) and I absolutely love it! Please do it whenever you can!

I've been the only female in the room multiple times. My contribution is my presence 😑

I’ve stopped people talking over others in meetings - ‘sorry Bill, I think Sarah was just finishing her point’. Iconography, pronouns as described by others are also important. And I show up ☺️

By advocating hard for the women on my team (especially one black woman who gets the most shocking treatment) with Deloitte HR and leadership. I fight. A lot.

Hi, sure

Showing up . Plus I’m brown 1st gen immigrant in the USA . I just show up to meetings , projects etc where I’m the only woman and sometimes the only brown person and often both ! But show up , I do!

I’m loving this post, it’s giving me so many ideas to start incorporating! I try to point out when there’s a bias in assigning/volunteering women for admin type work and then suggest that we rotate it instead. Because I’ve felt the pain when someone asks you to organize your third team dinner and you’re not a PM or a junior analyst on the team...you’re one of two female SMEs when there are a dozen men on the team who surprisingly haven’t had to plan a dinner 🤔

I was tasked with organizing the team happy hour and I’m delegating that task down to my male Consultant

Speaking up. And wherever possible having the last word 😛

I challenge when roles are stereotypically assigned. For example, why doesn't the man do change management and the woman do the analytics? I also joke with male colleagues, as well as my female colleagues, about the stupid sexiest comments/attitudes that I encounter. Essentially, I want to make sure the BS is called out to help my male colleagues recognize it themselves so they can 1) start to recognize it and call it out, 2) be more aware of their own actions and avoid the comments /attitudes that are problematic.

like

I call it out when guys (usually younger / more junior) mansplain to me. Last time, another male colleague beat me to it! Small wins 🙂

I’ve been asked to be on orals just because I’m a woman. Shamelessly. Even by female partners. Being call diversity card and had to talk to streams I’d rather leave the firm than actually taking on

Diversity in advertising is great, however I think it should also include diversity in opinion/political views. Anyone agree/disagree?

Why is it diversity in the workplace for women is a recognized problem firms are trying to solve but diversity for underrepresented minorities isn't viewed as an equal priority?

Not trying to start an argument, actually just curious, but isnt the whole pronoun thing being taken overboard? I would think it really only applies to people who are transitioning because you want to be respectful of that person. But like…old bald man Bob in accounting…we know ur a dude. Also, I have a gender neutral name myself (im a guy) but couldn’t care less if someone accidentally thought I was a woman over an email or even in person. Curious to hear peoples thoughts.

I have just completed my first of 12 CIMA exams and I can’t seem to motivate myself to study at the expense of my side hustle when I don’t see myself in Consulting long term. I know I will gain some valuable lessons from CIMA for future ventures but it is a 3 year qualification alongside a demanding job with minimal downtime. Should I try and qualify or focus on saving money and my side hustles? Also, do I need to qualify to work as a consultant in Big 4 or can I opt not to sit exams?

My favorite part about WFH is that I experience significantly less micro aggressions and/or discrimination than when I used to have to go to the office. The downside is that there will probably be less work for employment lawyers. I don’t mind making that sacrifice. It’s harder to have a hostile work environment when you don’t have to be in a work environment 5 days a week (sometimes 6). For context, I’m a POC.

Looking for advice on how to be less of a ‘yes woman.’ I’ve gotten feedback that I should be less quick to say yes or should feel comfortable pushing back on unreasonable requests, but I’m struggling with doing that in practice. Wondering if there are any resources (coaching, book recommendations…?) that you have found helpful to retrain your frame of mind to be less of a people pleaser and feel more confident being direct or saying no. Any suggestions welcome!
