Does a PhD in computer science make it any easier to get jobs at big tech companies versus only having a Masters? I know that I want to eventually work at a company like Google or Salesforce and I feel I have a long road to get there coming out a Masters program with not much work experience. I hear people say that a PhD is generally only for those interested in academia/research but then I see job postings at companies like VMware that want people with a PhD. So it makes me wonder?

Thanks for the reply. Could you please elaborate on what ACN does?
Want to leave my lower tier consulting firm for one where I'll be trained or be given the resources to train when I need to. Currently need to learn everything via Google, my own free/paid courses, and very high level firm resources. Sometimes peers help, but most are over capacity and unable to assist.
Not trying to sell the Kool aid but I've been pretty content with some of the training opportunities, especially within the SAP practice.
