If you’re looking for long term then go for residential area like Amstelveen, Amsterdam zuid etc. for short term you can stay anywhere in Amsterdam central, keep in the mind it will be noisy at night, also bit costly as well.

If you are looking to stay for your leisure travel and you are travelling alone hostels near Central are good options. Slightly cheaper hotels(if travelling with family) near Heineken musuem.for longer term options places in suburbs can be explored
