What are the hours like in NYC small firms? Like 40-60 transactional attorneys

Okay! I need help- we are looking to restructure the strategy & culture department in my company and I want to ask for insights.
What exactly is culture and what exactly is strategy- where in the line falls recruitment or is that an entire department all together? Right now everyone reports to the go of culture and strategy… IT, H&S, business development, social media… we are trying to streamline it a bit and look into creating positions as we are growing but I’m struggling to come up with ideas

Is it worth it to apply in the Covid round? I feel like there is less scholarship money, won’t be same experience in the fall or even the spring, and could be impacts to internship recruiting in the fall. Anyone agree?

Does anyone have advice for making a jump into a Brand Strategist role at an agency (large or boutique)?

My previous experience is in-house and in more generalist marketing roles that included brand and content strategy (among other hats), most recently at a DTC e-commerce brand. Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

Whenever a certain partner talks to me I feel like he’s trying to teach me quantum mechanics. Meanwhile I don’t even know algebra. He always encourages questions, but I I only kinda follow the concepts theoretically and can’t even formulate a coherent question. I appreciate his efforts, but all I can do is smile and nod. I’m a first year. Do I just keep smiling and nodding hoping it’ll make sense some day?

Did you ever had this feeling of not fitting in? People (including non-legal staff) in my team just ignore me. I know I made some mistakes, but resenting a trainee for that reason seems unfair. Just went to farewell drinks of an associate and only two persons out of 14 actively engaged conversation with me. With the rest I had this feeling of forcing everything and of being the awkward one. People were referring to funny stories on cases we’re working on and that I never heard about.
