Don’t ask about this here. You’ll get people like risk compliance responding and telling you not too. I used to travel every week for work and was technically required to pay taxes in whichever state I worked. No one cared. This will he likely the same at your work. No one will care, no one will notice either unless something bad happens.

D4 seems like they would be fun at parties 🤦🏻‍♂️

There’s implications for the employer There’s implications for the employee You probably need to get a work visa A lot of visit visas specifically exclude you from the country’s healthcare. Think about it, it’s not like you are paying into the system with a tourist visa. Not to mention other payroll taxes etc.

CFO and then legal. HR will also need to be involved. I would research this before going to them so you have a plan. Does this company already have a presence where you are going? Is there a work visa requirement? What restrictions are there that might be of impact to you or the company?

likeupliftingfunny

I know that for international students who study in the USA they aren’t allowed to work/earn money while on a student visa. The country I am going to allows you while on a student visa to work part-time while classes are in session and full-time while in recess. So I will be allowed to be employed. At this point I think it’s a matter as to whether my job will allow me to work for them from another country.

You also likely need a work visa from the country you are going to.

D1 The company I am employed by doesn’t have an office location in the country. But our parent company that acquired us does. Can that help?

You are creating nexus for your company, so they have to file the return in the country they have an employee in.

I had a call with our CFO he is happy for me. He will set up a meeting with our Head of People(HR) and gain more information regarding all of the tax implications that you all had mentioned and if it is something that they are setup to do. Thank you all for the advice. I am glad that I was able to have a transparent conversation. I will keep you guys updated when I hear back.

Can you VPN into the US so it looks like you’re in the US? I have no idea on these things. They will pay you into a U.S. bank account, right? The only issue — what if you need to use health insurance or something?

Your company needs to know location for their corporate tax purposes. They need each employee’s location for tax nexus

Tax implications. Your payroll taxes are being paid in US , when they actually need to be paying in the destination country

like

There are multiple issues that would need to be reviewed- payroll taxes, PE risk for employer, labor laws of local jurisdiction, copyrights etc. A corporate lawyer and a global mobility consultant would be the right people to approach with the questions.

I am just going to ask my job if they’ll allow it. If not, I’ll just resign. As stated in my OP I am also going to this other country for grad school. On this student visa I am allowed to work part-time while classes are in session. Then full-time during breaks.

like

At this point I’ll just talk to my job if they say no - I’ll just resign. As I stated in my original post I am going for grad school. So I’ll have a student visa and I know I am allowed to work part time on a student visa.

PwC3 I had a call with our CFO and he was actually very supportive of it. He said he would bring it to our head of People(HR). But he seemed like there are a few different options that could happen. I do have to say that I don’t work in public. I am in industry so I think things may work out a bit differently for me. I know that some public firms like EY have thing where you can work in a different country once you’re a senior for like 2 years. Maybe look at that as an option? Or just request a transfer to the country you want to attend school and it might be a more feasible opportunity. What I have learned most from this post is that if you just have an honest conversation with your management(given they’re people who like you and want to see you succeed) with enough time before anything is possible.

I initially went to our CFO who’s newer than me. We have an EVP and my manager is the controller. Who out of these people would y’all recommend I speak with first? I know the CFO had mentioned talking to head of legal.

Your tax situations will be complicated too

RSM has a policy prohibiting what you are planning to do for many of the legal, tax, and security reasons already mentioned.

Well I don’t work at RSM.

I hope you’re not working to EY. If so you better come clean. Not worth losing your job over.

I do not work for EY

Hello. My district is currently remote (virtual) and I am teaching a chemical reactions unit. Usually, this is a hands on unit. I cannot do hands-on labs for equity reasons. Anyone have suggestions on free simulations I can use? I teach synchronously to my students 2 classes (2 hours total ) each week.
