Who cares about job titles. Shoot for at least 25% pay bump
What's the JD for this risk management AVP tho? You sure your risk assurance experience is directly relwvant?
I’m Big 4 born and raised so I’m trying to do some research as I start applying for jobs and negotiating salaries for my worth in industry. I understand every company’s hierarchy may be different but wanted to see if I’m generally headed in the right direction. Should I be applying for manager roles, AVP, or VP roles? I have 6YOE in HCOL city. My bf seems to think a “risk manager” is not a real job title as anyone could be a manager, so he suggested I ask about salary bands and ask for a real job title like VP. One job I am looking into is a new role that supports the VP of risk management (asset management firm), so in this case should I be asking for an AVP title so that I will get placed in a higher salary band rather than taking a “manager” role? I currently am 130k + bonus
I’m not sure if I’m overthinking this but I don’t want to screw my career over by not doing enough research first.
Senior associate is equivalent to AVP at a bank.
I think risk manager is a fine title. We have that title at my company as well as manager of compliance.
Also what does your boyfriend do that he thinks he knows about this?
Consider pay level heavily as title may or may not matter. Also think about specific tasks and ability to grow your skillset.
Manager, Senior Manager, or AVP are all titles that could make sense at 6 YOE depending and specific skills.
I have a colleague who left his M role for a VP role, but the VP role is at a bank and is actually equal to M. This type of VP title isn’t that useful. Not sure why your BF thinks that’s a “real” title.
