What are the most important qualities to look for when you’re considering who to share as a reference? Obviously that they like you / would recommend you, but other than that? Seniority? Others?

first and foremost - they like you and will say good things about you. should be a no-brainer.
[my recruiter told me a horror story so apparently it isn’t]

up, down, across.

someone who you reported to who can speak to the quality of your work.

someone who reported to you who can speak to you as a manager [assuming as a director you have managed people]

across - someone on another team/different role who can speak to your ability to collaborate.

always present multiple references and the context.

Jane was my manager at ABC role and is now blah blah at XYZ.

This is so helpful - thank you!

I have never seen anyone display as much grace as Barbara Walters when her co-anchor (Harry Reasoner I think) was so dismissive and rude to her; she just smiled and kept doing her job. If I end up with even half that level of class, I will consider it to be a win

Are there any in house entertainment roles that are particularly good? Netflix is obviously FAANG but I’ve heard the culture is cutthroat. On the other end of the spectrum, heard the traditional TV networks pay terribly. Any other options? What about in house music roles? Is that a thing?

Is it okie for me to want to leave a company that favor other coworkers and has not given me the respect or power to be in control as a team lead?

The situation is they only make me fix the situation when it’s in utterly chaos or a mess, plan schedule with my pier that is under me without consulting me, limiting things in my power that I can do to improve work efficiency and they also give me the tougher schedule.

I have interviewed with 5 different people for a senior level role at a publicly traded media company. I was told last Wednesday that they are getting approval to offer me the job. I received a follow up on Friday making sure I received the message.

I followed up on Tuesday and was told the offer is with the CHRO waiting approval and that the feedback on my interviews was strong all around.

It's now Thursday and I am very eager to lock down this offer. What's my next move? HR or manager?

A recruiter contacted me about an opportunity. I asked what the company name is and they said it's confidential. Is this typical? I feel like I'm not going to say yes to talking unless I know if the company is worth pursuing first? Is this bad?
