In Germany they put pictures (mugshots) on them.

Apparently in the US people are now detailing their vaccination status.

Once saw a guy claim he had 30 years of experience in the industry despite being 21 years old (his Dad worked in the industry and he thought that counted towards his YoE haha)

funnylike

In the US, putting your photo on your resume would be considered completely and utterly bizarre.

Placement in a Smash Brothers tournament and lifetime winnings.

Wasn't a resume I got, my wife did, for an entry level role, but it was two pages almost entirely about Smash Brothers for a financial role.

He mained Jigglypuff, if I recall

Oh man. I remember a 2 page resume about their experience in World of Warcraft. At least they related their activity to things like team building, project management, goal setting, leadership, etc.

someone wrote on her first resume VP of Operations for Squirrels (which was her sorority mascot, she did not clarify that). It was me. I’m someone.

Idk if clarifying that makes it better...

What 🤣🤣

Years ago I got a resume from a campus hire candidate with the an email address similar to hotginger@gmail.com.

funnylike

Does this mean that my SexiBottomBoy69@AOL.com email address would be considered "unprofessional" by your standards?

Accenture 2 completely agree. Not at all relevant in a hiring decision. There’s plenty of time to make connections get to know people outside of an interview and not bias the interviewers and process consciously or unconsciously.

Wow! It reminds me to my older sister’s interview recently in Indonesia. The interviewer asked my sister “what do your parents and siblings (if you have any) do for living?” I was like “🥴”

“VP of Fun”

I did make an offer. Despite the cheeky extracurricular name, the candidate was solid, and I didn’t hold that against them.

Hobbies/interests: Eating tacos.

Hobbies and interest when they are indicative of a healthy stress outlet (i.e. physical activity, educating oneself, etc) are a good to know...eating tacos being on one's resume is just hilarious

Their "resume" was a 159 page manifesto about how the federal government owes them $1 million for their work uncovering a vast conspiracy involving the Vatican, George Soros and the elites. Lots of anti-Catholic and anti-Semetic content

In the US somebody literally wrote in their cover letter how they worked and supported their spouse while their spouse went to school. Admirable but wrong place, sir.

like

Yeah, this isn't that weird to me. Seems like it is a slightly interesting point. Depends on how much time they spend on it

Though, full disclosure, I do not read cover letters

Under Skills and Interests, this guy put “Hispanic: Full Hispanic Name ‘…’” 🤣

The name he used on his resume was a pretty ubiquitous American sounding name.

I was reviewing resumes for a technical sales role and there was a full section talking about event organization and wedding planning. Also, I once got a 20 page CV (norm for my industry is 2 pages).

That they were a member of the National Association of Black Accountants.

He was a blonde hair, blue-eye white guy. We could never figure that one out. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Been to some NABA conferences and the connected parties. Some of the most fun I’ve ever had.

A young account management candidate used "whilst" in his cover letter and he'd never even been to the UK. Totally American. It was a complete affectation.

AD1 nothing wrong with using the Queens English and nothing pretentious about it

If you’re given a low to mid salary range with high range kept confidential and you go through the lengthy interview process, is it appropriate to negotiate more after being given an offer in the mid-range? Don’t want it to seem like I wasted everyone’s time if I “already knew” the range.

I recently switch orgs internally & found out that I was under compensated in my previous role. I’ve been promoted three times & have been always recognized as a high performer. My previous role had a title change to mgr and the pay was much more than mine. As well as new hires in the entry level roles were getting offers close to my salary. The entire team got a pay adjustment and I did not. I asked for a pay adjustment with what I knew but even that was still much less. Now I feel burnt out…

I’m interviewing and considering leaving the law and nice in-house job (work 20-30hrs/week, clocking out at 5pm, no evening or weekend work, comp $215k, doing mainly commercial, though not much mobility) for a business-side role within the cap markets team at a fund doing structured finance. Many unknowns, but comp will be at least $400 base, $200 bonus, soon managing a team and serious career progression, more hours/week (TBD how much), plus deal driven. Any thoughts on making this switch?
