The local public defender is usually going to be the "best" organization. They are always underresourced and could use another helping hand.

Criminal justice reform is lagging in many ways. Diversion of the mentally ill. Rehab prioritized over punishment. Examining and considering individual circumstances. However, issues go well beyond the criminal justice system. For starters, quality education for all is necessary. There must be accessible job training programs, job opportunities, affordable cost of living, including housing. Etc.

Equal Justice Initiative “EJI” in Montgomery, AL. But Montgomery would be a horrible place to live. As said above, the local PD’s office is a great place to get in the trenches and fight the good fight.

Hey all - couple question for anyone working at PwC who has been successful in filing their green card under the EB1-C category. How long did you have to wait to get the process started and did you need to get any approvals? I am currently on an L-1A visa and was told by the immigration team that they wouldn’t start the process until I have been with the US firm for 12 months and typically they would start the process 3.5 years prior to the max visa date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Curious to know what other avenues people have taken in our industry to make more money. Currently getting OT which is nice since most places don’t offer that benefit but still doesn’t feel like it’s worth the long nights when the paycheck comes in.

Shows like panchayat set in rural setting? Shows like these remind me of my lazy summer afternoons in my grandmas village. I love Hindi movies set in smaller towns/villages like Bareilly ki barfi, stree etc - feels natural and relatable to me. Can anyone suggest movies/series set in rural india?

Deadline to Answer was missed, judicial default was entered, then a Default Final Judgment was entered without a hearing. Would this be an additional grounds for a Motion to Set Aside/Vacate? Assistant forgot to the calendar deadline, and when judicial default was issued, assistant was assigned to file the Answer/Counterclaim, but did not. Soon after, she quit. Was first put on notice when DFJ was issued.

I am interviewing for a new IT Manager position. I started putting out soft feelers and then hit the hunt harder. The problem: I have one offer and need to give an answer by next Wednesday. I have two other opportunities that are in final steps but probably won’t have offers by next Wednesday. Both of the other offers will be higher pay but clearly are uncertain for offers. Do I accept the offer I have, which is a good one or wait for the other two to finalize and possibly miss out altogether?

Many efforts to get into big law have been to no avail mainly because I only have LLM from Emory Law and my other law degrees are foreign. I have decided to start my own law firm and I aim to make it as international as possible, thus making my supposed academic disadvantage my strength. I am considering corporate, M&A, entertainment and sports as areas of practice. Please advise accordingly. Thank you!

California attorneys — I am having difficulty finding authority concerning the use of a rejected (partial) settlement offer to claim that a party failed to mitigate their damages. I.E. plaintiff could have mitigated if they accepted the (partial) settlement offer. Defendant offered to settle one claim (without affecting the others). Plaintiff rejected. The value of damages has increased over time and now defendant claims that plaintiff failed to mitigate because they did not accept the offer. TY

Is there a market for lawyers to add expertise In crisis management or reputation management? My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know. Is this normal??
