I am, but I generally want to know the pros and cons of being partner.

Con you typically die before 70

Nowadays you have PPMD’s dying in their 40’s and 50’s. Once you get to manager/senior manager in some of these firms, you should stop there. You should have enough experience to go out on your own once you have the confidence to know how the money works and sell your skills independently.

Pros: money, being able to engage with c-suite level folks, great professional network, good retirement package Cons : Tons of hours and politics to get to PPMD, lots of selling to stay as PPMD, can negatively impact your family life and life outside of work

like

Building on what EY1 said: Pros: Comp growth can be quite significant depending how high up the PPMD ladder you go and how good you are at selling. If you're into prestige, there's that. Excellent retirement benefits compared to 99% of companies out there (though no guarantee that'll be the case 15+ years from now when you'd be eligible for PPMD). Cons: You gotta sell a lot to make PPMD and the expectations go up from there--if selling isn't your forte, this could be a significant drag. Every PPMD I've known at B4 and T2 works permanent 60-70+ hour weeks and never gets to truly unplug. The climb to PPMD and within the PPMD ranks is really hard on personal relationships, most I've known have been divorced at least once. Retirement benefits are likely going to get trimmed at least to some extent in the coming decades.

Looking for title advice within data roles. My current role is a high level IC, I am looking at other roles and a little uncertain - should I consider Data Science roles, senior data science roles? Data Analyst Roles? Staff/manager data analyst? What would look like a step down ( in the future)? What would look like a lateral move? What titles are a promotion? There seems to be limited amount of standardization between data roles and titles.

Contemplating having a baby and finding a new job… order TBD! Is it true that if I change companies and get pregnant shortly thereafter, thus delivering before my 1 year anniversary of employment, that I am not entitled to full paid maternity leave “benefits”? I know some companies are more generous than others so it’s not universals but I learned this recently and I’m freaked out. Is this true? In agency world? If so, America, wtf?

I know this topic has come up before but am asking a slightly different question. We have always talked about 3 kids. I discovered I was pregnant with kid 2 the week my city went into lockdown last spring. Entire pregnancy and first 9 months of 2’s life has been Covid. It has been such a vulnerable scary time and I don’t want to be that vulnerable again. I am vaxxed and it’s more about not wanting to be reliant on the medical system vs Covid specifically. Will I regret not going for 3?
