Always ask why the position is open. If they don’t have a simple short answer it’s a red flag.
“You really have to make the role your own” aka there’s no specific responsibilities so you’ll just be doing everything
Big ones for me are Recruiter manners, responding to thank you emails, communicating what’s going on throughout the process. Another big one is being on time for interviews, and folks having actually looked at your book / resume beforehand. I can’t believe how often it’s obvious people haven’t done any due diligence.
Agree on the “thank you” emails.
Rescheduling interviews. One company rescheduled every single one of my interviews. I took the job and realized why. Complete sweatshop
I once had a recruiter pretend to type up our conversation as it was happening. Fortunately, I could see everything on their screen via a lovely window reflection. I got up and ended the interview. They are probabky still scratching their head wondering why I left.
Probably playing solitaire…
They ask you how good are you booking travel and managing calendars
Did someone say red flags? 🚩
There
On recruiter asked what year I graduated from college.
Unreal
Lied to my face. I had a back to back interview with two different directors. The first one (who would have been above me -hierarchy) lie to me about people getting fired. The second director came along 5 min later and mentions about all of the people getting fired (5months before due to budgeting) and that’s why I was being interviewed… they offered me 10% more than the top limit, which was also a red flag when paired with the other. Turned the job down.
